Am I correct with this ???

My Satellite Setup
Humax 2000 HD Receiver, Motorised 80 CM Orbital Dish, Dragon CAM and SKY +
My Location
Bracknell, Berkshire
I am just about to buy a Dragon Cam, but want to make sure i fully understand it all.

My Main priority is to watch footie when the season starts so i will be buying an ART card.

Apart from that people have said that I would miss out on a lot if i did not buy a cam like the Dragon.

So is the correct procedure.

I buy a dragon cam, Loader card, Programmer.

I update the Card and Cam and then al of a sudden i should be able to watch channels that would not be available unless i had subscription cards ?
Where does my ART card sit ? Are there 2 slots in a dragon cam for both the ART card and the Updated card or am i miss understanding ?

How often will i have to update the card and cam and if i dont update will that affect my ART viewing. I.E will all of a sudden my ART card stop working in the middle of a programe if i dont update my CAM straight away ?

This is all going in my Humax 2000

Hi paulwilko,
you only use the loader card to update the Dragon Cams firmware with the latest Predator file, after that the card is removed and you can insert any legitimate subscription card. The later Dragon/T-Rex Cams do have two card slots, but the top slot is for a SIM card for 2 mature content channels.
ART is a good subscription for football but you might also want to take a look at a DigitAlb subscription, which gives a mix of football, films and entertainment channels.
Subscription cards usually last 6 months and only need activating when required, and is usually automatic, DigitAlb updates every month, but I think ART cards continue for the full 6 months once initially activated.

Was I right in saying that as soon as i update the TREX, that will open alot of channels that arn't part of my ART subscription ??

Also, What will I get with the Digitalb that I won't with ART ? Is it different matches ???

All ART cover is football, whereas DigitAlb has football and a wide range of films, and other channels, for a fuller guide check out the packages on lyngsat.com
ART covers a lot more premiership games, and if all your after is football it's a great package, a lot of pubs seem to like it as well, compared to the prices S*y charge !!!!!!
At the moment there is not a lot open in the satellite world, but we get SRG swiss package, 13E, a couple of TCM channels and music stations, 19.2E a few cryptowork channels, various satellites, and Mediapark on 30W.
There are always rumours of something new being opened, and we usually get a time when we have a good package opened. A few weeks ago we had D+, CABO, Digiturk, TPS, and Premiere to choose from, so we haven't had a bad few months, it's just a bit quiet at present.

dont the art cards are prepaid so just activate and work on a time bases for 12 or 6months from the time of it being activated so you would only just need to update the dragon cam with a new predator file when new things have been opened

When you say not alot open, do you mean as and when you update your Dragon Cam, it actually is not giving you many options in terms of channels at the moment ??

I assume with every update different channels become closed and opened ??

The last Predator version is 3.43, which gives a little idea of how often things change !!!!!! There have been around 50 Predator files in the last 2 years, with different packages being cracked, and then secured again, it's all part of the hobby.

I have another question.

I was recommended the Dynamite Multi card Programmer. It says on the description that "Dragon Card Loader programming and repairing (soon)"

Does this mean i can not update my Dragon Cam with this programmer or is it something totally different ?

it's the Cas 3 that can now repair damaged Dragon Cams, with the latest software and a little soldering, all the newer card programmers can program a loader card, but which programmer to get also depends on your computer and requirements.
If your computer has a dedicated Com port then the Infinity/Phoenix model is still a good programmer, if you want to convert Cams and do more than card programming then the Cas 3 is a good investment, but it will take research and work to get the most out of this programmer.
If your computer hasn't got a Com port then you might want to go for a USB only programmer, like the Infinity Unlimited, Cas 3, or the Adteknik 3.6 model, at least I think it's the 3.6 model, from memory.
There are files to repair damaged loader cards, but all the programmers, Ive mentioned, can carry out this function.

Thx matey

As the one i mentioned seems to be cheaper than the ones you mentioned, i would like the Dynamite one if poss. It has USB by the looks of it and 2 other connections. Does this mean I have a choice of connection that i can use or is each connection used for different purposes ?

I only want it to update and programme my CAM. Not worried about anything else as it would involve alot more research and it is already doing my head in.

Older programmers, like the Infinity/Phoenix use 2 connections, a USB cable for power and programming fun cards, and a Serial cable for programming in Phoenix and Smartmouse mode.
Check if you get the cables with your programmer, otherwise you'll have to buy then separately, also check which loader card you are getting with your Dragon.
