Amazonas 4A operating at 61W has recently been confirmed to have suffered a major on-board power supply failure shortly after launch last Spring. Around 50% of the onboard capacity is now none operational, and a major insurance claim has been filed.
Amazonas 5 has been ordered as a replacement and is expected to be launched in 2017.

You might to add on directv 103w had a severe electronic problem that caused loss of service for 103w customers.

Did this failure happen in 2014? Maybe that's why nothing is on hispasats website ......cause its old news?

This page on the Hispasat site on 05-12-2014..... http://www.hispasat.com/es/sala-de-...adjudica-a-ssl-la-construccion-del-amazonas-5

simply mentions that with the construction of Amazonas 5

'.......mission 4B redefining the mission is one of the measures to minimize the impact of the anomaly detected in the power subsystem Amazon 4A. Thus , the HISPASAT Group not only completed in a short space of time the supply of capacity that would be lost by the incidence of Amazonas 4A, but also have additional capacity in Latin America.....'
