Hi,

Can anyone recormend any american TV slingbox hosting companies...

a2btv: The customer services live chat doesn't seem to work anymore so I can't request a demo. I've already attempted to contact them but received no reply.

fliptube: Contacted them so Im waiting on a reply in regards to pricing.

Halu (I think): Again contacted them with regards to price but waiting on a reply.

I don't know any others? Any ideas?
 
If San Francisco California based hosting is okay with you, I can host a slingbox for you.

i tested some of these and as far as signal goes the tests were verry good.
the price will not be good.
expect to pay $100 a month or more

a friend has her brother sling tv shows from the states.
his basic cable was $10 a month more and she sent him the sling box.
she uses her computer and a hdmi output to the big screen tv.
it was 9.0 on a 10 scale.
upload at the sourse is important.
most adsl in europe has a 3 meg down load.
if the usa has less that 1 meg upload were you are slinging it will not be good.
they should test up load and down load as well.
if in the usa the upload is 1 meg or better you are ok
if its 250k no go.

Not in the UK ;)

Huge areas dont even get 2 meg!

ok are we talking down load.
even in southern italy were there is not much fiber optic the down load is 3 to 4 meg a second.
this is plenty for sling box.
if he is able to get upload of 1 meg or better from the usa then it should work ok.
if they limit upload in the area in the usa at 256k it won't work.
my internet is 7 meg down load but its not realy.
its 3.5 meg down load and we have no fiber optic at all.
if i did it would be 1 meg up and 9 meg or better down.
if you can not down load 1 meg were you are at then you are probably still on dial up.
this girl i saw her brother has a extra cable box in his home in the usa.
sne sent the sling box to him and he upgraded the internet speed paying 10 to 20 a month more and she is able to watch basic tv service
here in italy where therre is no fiber and she has adsl 7 mega and it is running at 3 meg down here in italy and its working like a champ.
i saw the test on her flat screen tv here in italy and the quality looks great.
i am sure the uk internet service is better that this part of italy for sure.
all he has to do is down load sling box on the computer and extend it to the tv and make a test.

This made me laugh out loud!

I'm on ADSL and struggle to beat 512k download most of the time.

Ralph, I think you seriously underestimate the lack of investment in Broadband Services in the UK other than in large population centres.

The nearest fibre to here is 40 miles (~70km) away! We live just over a mile (2 km) from the local town and our bb runs at 1.8 meg- the phone cable route does 3 sides of a square and is around 3 miles (6km).

Upload tops out at 380kbps

I know lots of places in this area who cant get any land line broadband at all as the phone line is too long - they have to go with expensive satellite or do without.
 
It's not just the UK that can suffer.

Although I'm spoiled in the UK (I'm a few hundred metres from the exchange and get ADSL 2+) out in France the house is in the middle of the country and over 4km from the exchange. Download can be as good as 1.5Mbps and upload 500 Kbps on ADSL 2 which sounds OK until I tell you that the bandwidth is shared with the phone as it's a voip system. When the phone is being used you can slice 300 or 400 off both figures.

New members dont have pm enabled to begin with. You need to be on the forum for a few weeks AND have a minimum number of posts - we had to introduce these restrictions because of dreadful problems with spammers trying to hijack the forum for their own nefarious purposes.

And cemit90 - if you want to advertise your business you pay the going rate for advertising on the forum - you dont sneak free adverts in on this forum
