Hi
Im still looking for a HD reciever (yes still havent bought one)
I was looking at the Blade 7000 and the cheaper openbox s9 or s10...Then i stumbled on the Amiko Alien 8900..From what ive seen it has a good write up...It has dual boot, so you can either boot up its own firmware or you can use enigma2..Just wondered if anyone has one of these and what they are like...Particularly im looking for something with a sensitive tuner..Any feedback much appreciated
Cheers Richard

I have just bought an Amiko Alien off fleabay and just waiting for it to be delivered, I was looking at the s9/10/11 also then spotted the alien. After a bit of research I bought it as I prefer the enigma option since I have had a dreambox 7000s for nearly 9 years, as far as I know you choose which firmware it boots from on startup and its possible to put most enigma 2 on but there are a couple of beta firmware which uses the options built in to the factory one like being able to use a wifi/3g dongle and the youtube and other streaming functions.

I will post back after I have got it and had a play.

Darren

Hi Darren
Yes please let me know how you get on with this receiver. I would prefer to get this one as it has the multi boot option..Also would want it to stream movies from the pc..Just out of interest how much did you pay for it?
Cheers Richard

Hi Richard,

I bought it for £99 on fleabay, it was on for £120+ £10 delivery and I made an offer. I have seen them for £175 I think on a sat website some where so I don't think I did too bad.

Darren

Hi Darren
Yes a good price well done..I've also seen it for £170+//so you did well..The only place i've seen it cheaper is a place in portugal for 115euro which seems a lot cheaper than anywhere else..I too was interested in the enigma2, havent used it before as ive got a dreambox 500 but the pictures i have seen of the skins are better...Also read somewhere that it had a sensitve tuner, which is what i want for fringe reception. Just one thing...being that the card reader is conax embedded do you think it will be ok with a sky card?
cheers Richard

Hi Richard,

You should be able to use a sky card in an enigma machine you just need to get the original box serial and you add it to a file within enigma, you should be able to find more info on the dreambox sites. I don't think conax works with sky but another cam should which should be able to download.

Some receivers, (dreambox) can emulate Videoguard at the moment, and the dragon cam can also use an original card to show the pay Sky channels. BUT the card has to be initialised in a Sky box FIRST, and may need a few overnights in the digibox to get its keep alive signals.

Richard.

As you are still looking for your ultimate HD receiver, I just thought I would let you know, that the following receivers are all from the Fulan stable so I believe are identical in almost every respect.I am led to believe that the Amiko runs oscam while the GI runs cccam. This may have changed since they were launched.

1) Amiko Alien shd 8900. 2) Sab Unix F+ Solo. 3) Edison Pinglux. 4) Galaxy Innovations GI S8120E. I also think Golden Media produce one as well.
At least you have a choice of manufacturers to choose from. I hope you find this information of some use in your quest.

Hi Darren thanks for the info...Let us now how you get on with the receiver when you get it
Many thanks Richard

Hi Grumpy Dave
Yes thanks very much for the info on the other receivers..I will have a look at them
Just out of interest where did you get your 1.9 dish from? im thinking of upgrading mine...I take it you dont have any reception problems in murcia with it?
many thanks Richard

Richard.
I use Craig from Brit Sat for all my satellite tv needs. He is based in Alfaz del Pi and covers the costa Blanca and Costa Calida. One of the few, who can set up a motorised system and doesn't mind if you get involved with the set up like I do.He is also willing to fit your equipment or will supply your requested items.
He advertises in the local free papers.
I live 30 minutes inland from St Javier (Murcia) Airport and I have no reception problems. The only time I might get a little break up is if there is a torrential downpour then I generally select other channels and watch the same thing on another frequency.I have no issues with BBC2 like some.I must say that since the other BBC2's changed frequencies it has made things a lot easier, although the majority of the time I watch BBC2 on 102.Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info Grumpy Dave
I can receive bbc2 but not on 102...Ch4 and ch5 only come through in the evening...all other main channels are fine..Im just waiting for 1N to go live to see how it affects the reception then i may have to get another dish

Hi Richard,

I got the Alien today, managed to plug it in but it didn't work on my 19" which I had my Passion+ with hdmi to dvi and it was set to boot in E2 instead of spark. I suppose thats what happens when you buy 2nd hand. I plugged it into my big tv and tuned in 28.2 and 23.5 which I have on a diseqc switch and with the auto detect it worked perfect. I definitely think the tuner is better than most as my signal quality is 100% on a few transponders where it would only be 80% on the P+, it also took only a few minutes to scan 28.2 which took a very long time on my P+ and dreambox.

I am going to have a good play with it tonight (no jokes pls :) ) and I will post more info.

Darren

Hi Darren
Thanks for getting back and glad you received it ok..Thats great news about the tuner and the quickness of the scan..Will look forward to hearing what else you think of it..and after your report (if its good) think i will take the plunge and buy one, its about time i upgraded to a hd receiver although i wont be able to view it in hd (dont have a hd tv as yet) i will be able to receive a couple of main stream channels in spain stronger than the sd ones. Would be interested to know how it streams avi's etc from pc. Well i hope you had a good play (not going to make any jokes, although trying my best not too) Look forward to hearing from you
Cheers Richard

Hi Richard,

let me start by saying i love this box :-)

i have just installed enigma2 on the dual boot section and it seems to be working. i have been using the standard spark software which is nice and works well. i got my paid card working perfectly and mapped my buffalo linkstation network drive for recording and watching movies from. i played an avi file from my network and it worked perfectly. when i mentioned that the channels scanned quickly it was when i did a full scan but when i did fta only it seemed to take longer.

at the moment i am just scanning channels in enigma so i haven't seen it work 100% yet but i am hopeful and its only a few button presses to get back to spark.

Have a look at here _http://www.world-satellite.net/amiko.html for some info, i am posting and trying to piece together broken English info

Hi Darren
Thanks for getting back..Glad you are getting on well with the box...glad to hear also that the streaming of avis works well..I think its high time i take the plunge and buy a hd box..As said before i was looking at the blade 7000 which i was gong to buy until i stumbled on the alien..It seems to have more than the blade and what with the enigma2 and plug ins there is plenty to play around with..Also the web browser is a good idea too..it also looks like it has a lot of support with firmware etc..Thanks for the link...im a member there too
Thanks again Darren

Hi guys,

Been wrestling this box for 2 days now for a mate of mine. It certainly isn't anything like my VU!

He was sold the GI version of this box in Spain and has bought it back to the UK.

Which e2 image are you using? I have I stalled the pkt e2 image, but can't get Cccam
Installed on it.

The Cccam on the Spark image works ok
For about 10 mins and then becomes very unstable.

Thanks for looking.

Hi xing...i have the alien and im using the new pkt image but i dont have any experience with using it with cccam im afraid..sorry i cant be more help
