This topic caught my eye as I had this variable filter many years ago. I also installed many SR4500 at one point in time so had a look in my collection of old stuff and found this programming crib sheet I used to use. I hope it helps. PS the filters on a Chaparral Cheyanne had a better result.

@Channel Hopper I presume that the tweaks on your PLL board adjusted the loop filter to optimise the bandwidth for best demod. Does it make much difference if you add extra filtering in that set-up?

It isn't my board, I would guess the potentiometers are in place to adjust for centering the filter to a maximum 36MHz (or 18MHz either side) of the 70MHz frequency, and limit amplitude to prevent clipping. Not unlike the front controls on the Phantom Filter.

Thanks, looks like on that particular release of the 5500 the 70MHz IF Loop feature was not used - the IF socket positions seemed to have been blanked off.

Thanks, looks like on that particular release of the 5500 the 70MHz IF Loop feature was not used - the IF socket positions seemed to have been blanked off.

All Echostar receivers after the 4500 used tuners with different IF conversion (I think the transfer frequency was 480MHz but don't quote me on that)

Yes, saw that the other week - it's the same chap i got the battered Echostar 4500 to experiment with from. The added switches are a curiousity, especially the side mounted rotory switch looking thing..... i wonder whos had their fingers in that doing the mods and for what for
