Analogue dish collar clamps

Hoping to bring an old analogue dish back to life on 28.2 in the near future!

Are the old analogue sky dish collor clamps good for modern LNB's? (As i've mentioned before I am planning to re-use one for 28.2E)
 
Minidish lnb's are optimised for the oval minidish design.

Whilst it would work ok with the strong Astra2 signals it will be something less than optimal on a weak signal as it will not pick up full illumination.

Thats the theory anyway - you never know what will work for you :D
 
Hmm... I guess i'll just have to see if the universal quad I am getting from ebay will fit on the 80cm dish I am going to rescue from the back of my friends house. (before it goes in a skip!)

It should do if you burr off the ridges around where the collar will go.

Oh right, thanks, do you think I will get a decent signal in comparison to the minidish?

Yeah and one I am very interested in, I am hoping that I can fit the quad onto the 80cm dish and run 6 feeds off it, 2 for sky+ in the lounge and a single feed each for the 4 bedrooms, with the larger dish I hope to gain a better signal strength and less viewing disruption in bad weather.
All this will happen once I have taken the dish off my friends house and restored it, which should be soon.
 
A quad wont work if you want 6 feeds! You will need an octo if you want just the one dish
 
Make sure you spray all the clamp bolts with wd40 a couple of days before you want to do any work on the dish & dont be afraid to hacksaw through anything rusted solid! :D

Bolts can be replaced easily enough
 
The LNB I have seen has 6 feeds, not sure what its called so I just referred to it as a quad, Lol, Yes I will use WD40, I plan to replace all the bolts and screws etc anyway so I will probably be getting the hacksaw out.
 
I have never seen, nor heard of a 6 feed LNB, have you got a link to it?

If you have, disable it by putting an underscore before the HTTP like so: _http.www
 
I've just looked and it actually has 8 feeds and is indeed called an octo. Bonus! :cool:

Just as well this is effectively a new installation, then - Octos are moderately heavy compared to a single and can flex the arm down a tiny bit.

Although the old "Analogue" dish probably has a tubular arm so is inherently rigid as compared to the rectangular section of a Toydish, you'd still have had to take this into account for a retrofit.

But as it isn't a retrofit, it'll all come out in the wash when you align the Dish anyway.

Luckily the dish is one that has support arms coming down from either side of the dish and connects with the end of the LNB arm, so hopefully I should get away with that. Lol

Nice. That'll stop the end of the arm being displaced in moderate winds.

Then you have a real ancient one. Check the reflector has no signs of severe reflector corrosion. If it is a solid white dish then tap the back all round to check for internal damage.
 
It was new in 1992, looks sound from ground level, I shall be rubbing the dish down and respraying it once I get it down. ;)
 
..This is gonna make you cry ...
I sent 3 of these old sky analogue dishes to their final resting place last weekend ..one of which was actually still in use up to 3 weeks ago..when I took it off my dads wall ...and replaced it with a motorised 80cm..
2 of the scrappers were lattice types with holes in the reflector and one was a solid amstrad..
may they rest in pieces.

great dishes in their day...but my garden was starting to look like a scrapyard.
I kept all the old lnbs though ...
..well you never know when you might need a paperweight..
