7020 with Nabilosat v 0.6 on cf card

Every 2 or 3 days the receiver freezes solid - normally when zapping off a channel that cant be descrambled. The only way to recover is to switch off at the back and switch back on again. But then the box will not restart if the cf card is in - it tries to but stops with the lcd panel blank just after the Dream Multimedia info screen.

The quick way to recover is to pull the card out, re boot onto the flash image, switch to a usb stick, and generally bu99er around with the cf car which normally involves formatting it, and starting again from scratch.

Maybe I should try another image or a new cf card...

I have a 7000S, but maybe this would help.
Which image are you using?
Try flashing the latest Gemini image, even if it is exactly what you have (make a clean start), then use only a USB memory stick for the /var
(if your box has it on the back).
I suspect the CF. So just get rid of it.

I wouldnt have a clue how to move the var....

Its worked perfectly well for a year and started playing up over Christmas. A new cf card is going in the shopping basket next time Im down town.

The base image is the one which came on the box originally as I have no intention of mucking around with that.

I'm tempted to ditch Nabilosat and go back to Gemini on multiboot - probably v3.6 as I like that one.
 
Ive got a usb stick on the box as well - its a 128mb thing used for testing so I'll ping the var over there later.

Good idea.
Is the /var on the CF or on the HDD?
Remove the CF afterwards.
 
Dunno but as I dont have a hdd fitted I guess its on the usb. Im not removing the cf - I use it to play with assorted images on multiboot! :D
 
7000 are not good with CF cards but if the 7020 is anything like my 7025 they have sorted out the CF problems. My box shows the hard disk as master and the CF as master so the 7025 must have primary and secondary IDE channels like a PC.

I multi boot with a CF card no problem, it is a 256Mb Fuji one that Asda were selling off for £3 each a few weeks ago.
 
Well the cf card went into the bin last night as it seemed to be causing all sorts of problems. I shall buy another one when Im in Tesco tomorrow night. I finally got the box up and running after starting again from scratch on a fresh usb stick. I also set a 32mb swap file on it as Ive always found gemini more stable with a big swap file in place.
 
Did you have your swap on the CF before? I would have thought it was better on the CF than USB speed wise.

I would like to use a CF on my 7000s instead of USB stick but I have read they are problematic. Last time I tried both CF and hard drive I lost everything on the hard disk :(

The 7025+ has a USB port on the inside of the box as well as on the outside. I think you can use them both ( not tried either yet ). By using the internal USB your flash drive won't stick out the back of the box.

If you don't install the Image in flash memory, the flash image shouldn't be of a old version. A swap file/partition (>= 16MB) should be present

I have always updated the flash image with the latest boxman image in both my 7000 and 7020. It is a must to update the base image or you will suffer every bug there is.
The trick is to load the flash image set up basic settings then leave it alone, do not add settings or anything else.
 
Have to admit Ive still got a pretty old base image on the box.. Ive been considering putting a late Boxman image on the internal flash as suggested, but ******* around on the internal flash is a scary step!
 
I thought flashing a 7020 was simple over ethernet. Just a power on and a couple of button presses gives you the flash over lan screen. You can't hreak it either due to its 2 stage boot loader. You can even flash using a CF card.

It probably is - looks like it can be done using flash wizard as well.
 
Flashwizard is something I can't use on the 7025, not sure about the 600. I do use it on the 7000.
 
Here is a simple guide explaining how to flash via your web interface.
This is the only method I have ever used and never had a problem.
You need MS word or word viewer to view the document.;)

Aargh. Bloody dreambox.

Right. Followed the suggestions. Flashed Gem 4.2 onto the internal flash using the lan method above. Went across no problem at all. Put my lnb config back on - no problem. Copied the channel lists back over - lovely. Went to update keys using internal satan loader, but got an error message that it couldnt create folders..

Box then froze solid again and refuses to restart. It gets as far as Dream Multumedia

/flash/zimage.elf dhcp

and stops there.

Useless pile of cr&p.

Sod it Im not doing it all again tonight.

I flashed Gemini 4.0 at the time, without the USB stick and have HDD.
Then the procedure worked for my box.
