hi been to look at three tvs today all in different locations all with the same symtoms horizontal lines from top to bottom not tram lines . it looks like the resolution is poor . a bit like looking at one of those toy tvs that u had to wind up that kind of effect but horizontal. mostly on bbc1 ch 62 on tacolnstone norfolk. any ideas anyone.
 
It's that time of the year - tropo interference (out- of - area channel cross- modulation).

These are most of the common ones.

But certainly sounds like atmospherics as Llew suggests.
 
is there any thing that can be done to prevent it
 
Not if the interference is co-channel.

Eastern and Southern areas of the UK are more prone to this problem, being near to the usual source of interference - continental transmissions using similar frequencies in the UHF/VHF bands.

ok thanks i tried a higher gain aerial and no amplification and there was a improvment many thanks
