Any Advice for a DB800 Newbie

My Satellite Setup
VU+ Duo 250gig/ DreamElite BH 1.3.2 Multiboot

Dreambox 500s-(clone) / DM-600

Relook 400s 160 Gig-/SifTeam 1.93 e enigma

Foretec 90cm Dish with Nikkai Diseqc Motor- 2 sky+ receivers fixed 28.2 east.
My Location
Newtownabbey, near Belfast, Northern Ireland
My 800 is arriving tomorrow and just want some pointers. Is hard drive compatability an issue or is any small SATA drive fine. I can get a 250gig Western Digital 2.5" 5400 rpm, seek time 11ms, for £40 from my local Pc store. Would this do the job. Would an external drive be better, in regards to the internal temperature. Is a fan for cooling advisable or is it a "wait and see" job. Which image should I go for. Any advice greatfully received:)

Glad you received it ok - i pre installed Gemini 370 on it & cccam for you, so you shouldn't have to patch it.

And the fan i sent you should keep the box very very cool, it kept mine cooler than my DM500 !! :eek:

:-rofl2 Ya didnt say you were on here, i had it up n running ok but my ccam cfg file had no effect so i did a factory reset, then an update and its all gone pear shaped. Im struggling along, but im learning as I go. Put PLi Jade on it and it would not boot. Looking for another image now. Might try Nabilo . The little fan works a treat, near silent too.

Got Nabilo on and running, got my cfg file ftpd to the box. Dish at 28.2e so set up for a single sat and scanned it. Boy does it take some time to run a scan(about 25 mins) is this normal? Just need to sort out how to set it for the motor now and that should be it. Also, My Snr is only showing around 26/28% and the AGC is 99% Ber 0. I am getting perfect picture on all channels so why is the signal % showing so low.

Im working fully now, sorted the motor out though I didnt do anything different than I did b4, All scanned in and working. :-righton

just received my dm800 and i'm getting the same SNR as you where.
My Snr is only showing around 26/28% and the AGC is 99% Ber 0.
Did you manage to get your SNR increased or is this normal.
I have a slight problem with video and audio sync and I was wondering if an increase in SNR would cure this.
I'm using latest Gemini and CCcam.

Same here..seems to be the norm..I know this sounds a bit daft but when I change images it seems to increase slightly,also my box was overheating almost to boiling point(slight exageration) but I bought a laptop cooling fan from Aldi during the week and when the box cooled down this also brought the SNR up slightly..all very strange.

yes the snr is always very low,but signal very good,i think its currency,a tuner plugin problem,to show it right!

here 500 gb seagate sata is 50€! 1 terrabte around 85 €

If you have PLI Jade there is a downloadable plugin, but I've no idea how to set it up. Looks like you need to put timing figures in.
