I was going to buy an 800HD, but wait a minute.....500HD?

I think it was originally due December but some online stores are offering pre-orders for release mid-February. Chance will be a fine thing!

There is a German website claiming it will be available from Feb 15th but I wouldnt take it as reliable as the same site had until yesterday Jan 15th!!!!!!!!

It seems the release date is still a bit up in the air. Until just before Christmas they were still accepting suggestions on what should and should not be included on the box. Then the design still has to be finalised and production done, so I would be surprised to see it before second quarter of this year. I am also looking forward to it as it seems it might be a better box than the DM800 with a faster processor( and somewhere it even mentioned dual core). The only downside is that the SATELLITE tuner is soldered in and not plugable, but this does not affect me.

Being soldered tuner is a major drawback and probably why it's so cheap, 299 euros.

Also it should be noted that DMM usually release boxes about a year or so after their original release dates.

That could well cost them. The market for HD boxes will only grow leading to potential lost sales; meanwhile the cloners will be waiting with baited breath
