Need to buy one for a relative. I've seen one by Strong at about 100 and another
Metronic for about 120.

I guess they'll all be cheap and nasty, but any reccomendations?

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

All of them are nasty, and the channel selection is highly dependent on getting the dish and LNB outside spot on. A light loss of signal through misalignment and/or skew settings and you can lose half the channels on the satellite.

Are you saying the tuners on them are poor then Channel Hopper?

Then it's the question of what receiver will play nice with the CAM+ module then, I've been looking at French TV options as well.

The demodulators are set up primarily for capturing wide footprint transponders for the specific broadcast bouquets. There is usually no issue with the primary / home channel lock, leading to a search that finds the important channels as the central frequency is pretty hard to miss. My experiences though have identified a drift once the receivers have warmed up, and some channels cannot be viewed unless the receiver is powered down and restarted.

I would recommend only searching once the receiver has reached a stable temperature after about two hours once plugged in.

Hi,
I have a Technisat TNTSAT box that I don't need because of the changes in footprint in my location Israel.
I have advertised it in this website recently. You are welcome to contact me if you are interested.

I also had a Humax TNTSAT TN7000HD and it was absolutely fantastic but I don't have it any more.
There is a newer model TN8000HD costs EUR 105,00 from Amazon France.
I can't see the difference why it is cheaper but the remote is simpler. Maybe the Ethernet works now on this model?

There are 5 FTA HD channels French Suisse on Eurobird 9E, in case you didn't know.
They went HD recently.

Ok. Thanks for all the comments. I bought a Sagem box about 4 years ago and after an enthusiastic 4 or so weeks decided that French TV left something to be desired. I'd promised the box to my french sister in law but only passed it over 2 months ago and then the t...ts went HD 5mins later. I'll think about the Humax, thanks. They need something idiot proof!

Amazon France is a good place to buy. If they say they can't ship to your location, click on the neuf link which will open a list of all sellers. Select Amazon and hopefully you will not have a problem.
You can return the unit within 30 days get refund if you don't like it for any reason.
The new Humax model Ethernet connector doesn't work according to questions asked.
