My Satellite Setup
2x Pace 2600 C1 (in a box just in case) , 3 x Humax HD Foxstat (2 of which in store as spares) . 3x Manhatten Plaza - Pasat 2.4 PF dish mounted on flat roof with Invacom C120 quad LNB .
My Location
Massanassa, Valencia, Spain
Until last night I was successfully using 2 Pace 2600-c1 boxes alongside a Humax HD box on my system here in Spain - then Crash Flash - an unexpeced lighting strike on my street - no physical damage to the buildig but now "no signal" on either of the Pace boxes although the Humax is still functioning as if nothing has happened. I also lost one of the ouputs from my Invacom quad but as I only use three this is not too big an issue agt the moment.

So guys and gals - are the Pace boxes repairable?? or indeed are they worth repairing. I have already secured another from ebay for £20 but what of the two derad ones?

On both boxes the EPG seems fine and all the menus work but simply no signal - and yes I have checked the feeds and they are all (apart from the dead one) working fine on the Humax.

It may be worth getting a grounding bar with F connectors to stop it happening again.

Have you fully powered down the receivers?

Some failures can be fully restored following disconnection from the mains (usually overnight), saves buying some bagged mail order components on a whim.

Hi I have disconnected the receivers from everything then connected thenm up again but they have not been disconnected for a total of 12 hours in one go - does than make a difference? I am getting to think they are really dead and best replaced from ebay - there are some bargains out there and even if the EPG is not current I can leave them on and wait for an update (storms permitting) - last time that took over two months but it did eventually happen and once loaded the receiver was fine.

Well now I am perplexed - on one box the receiver still shows no signal but when I set manual tuning to 10906 V it starts to show a signal with decernt quality and tuned in ITV3 and a few other channels. Since then the EPG has been slowly filling up again - whats going on ? can anyone tell me. I will leave it on now to see what happens - then try the other box tomorrow perhaps!!!!

ALthough the Humax appears to get everything the Pace seems now to only want to get certain channels - and is very slow at changing from one to another. I really cannot fathom what the problem is unless it has reset itself to some old version of firmware which is not fully compatible with the current transmissions BUT it shows the latest EPG - Both Pace boxes seem to have the same problems - ie no signal on the default transponder which appears to be set at 11778 v 27.5 2/3 - is that right? althoug I can get some stations to tune in and the EPG gets populated with the latest time and programmes....

On the subject of grounding (and inline arrestors) I just remembered that some countries regulations are quite demanding, and people have been fined by their local government for not having proper grounding for their domestic satellite dish.

In your case you are feeding your neighbours which would be regarded as a shared antenna system. There would be legal liabilities and possible insurance problems here which you may need to consider in the case of future accidents.

Spain is not known for its tight regulation of anything, but they do seem to have occasional no warning crackdowns.

It would be worth checking the regulations to avoid any unknowing liability. I expect the regulations will be in Spanish only.

not really. on yoour dish in your location you should be able to get that freq 24/7...i do on my 1.8 all day with a pace 2600...and i am 60km+ farther south than you
and 11778 is just peeking thru on my 85cm dish and thomson box!!
so you have problems with either the LNB or boxes if you cannot get them now (2245)

The dish is entirely on my own property and not shared with or linked to anyone else - I just have several boxes around the house for convenience and so I can record on channels whilst watching others

My first guess would be LNB fault. You need to check that both bands and both polarities are working at full strength on all outputs. You really need a spectrum analyser to check this properly. You already know the LNB is shot on one output so the chances are that there are other faulty components. The Humax has a really sensitive tuner so it could be covering for a marginal LNB.

Yup I was thinking that but the Humax shows no signal strength loss or quality drop at all which I would have expected - I will be getting a new LNB as soon as possible but that means a trip south unless anyone knows of somewhere in or around Valencia city that can test and verify mine is duff (for the insurance claim) and also supply a new one for less than the £110 that some people are asking. Also thinking of checking out with another sky box but my spare ones are both in the UK at the moment - anyone in or around Valencia with an old box I could use for a day or two???

Don't forget the Humax uses a totally different EPG to the Pace boxes, and if the Pace boxes can't download that properly they won't work.

100€ for a Global Invacom flange LNB is about average.

Also if you are doing this through insurance you should just call someone to come and do it and give you one combined invoice for the whole damage. That's how I do it with my clients. The thing is the insurance company usually want to see an invoice from a company or at least a profesional in the field (i.e. a third party expert opinion). If you just go out and buy replacement parts I doubt they will pay out.

Thanks for the advice Huevos - I intend getting an expert in to do the actual changeover but can't find many around here in Valencia city - any ideas? "Base" are in Gandia so I suppose they might be a possibility but if there is someone competent and official nearer I would prefer that. - Any offers from companies???

Don't know about Valencia city. I work quite a big area (all of Alicante province, south Valencia, Murcia and Albacete) so I get to see quiet a few people's work, and based on what I've seen myself and heard from clients there is only one person I would personally recommend from the north Costa Blanca ( _http://satandpcguy.com/ ). I don't know him personally though and don't know if he would go that far north.
