I wouldn't put it where your new pole is, to be honest it's better off on the rear quarter of your house with the dish above the gutter to get the required amount of arc.

Would you really leave £100 laying about like that

Yes I'm swaying more and more towards that approach. As I have all the bits (barring the mount) what would a decent install cost do you think? I best do it properly. I can always use the ground mount for leaning against whilst admiring my much more safely-out-of-reach wall mounted setup.... ;)

With the position you suggest, would I be able to 'see' 43w?

What are you after on 43W? Most of the stuff firing towards Europe is secure encrypted. The fta stuff seems to be mainly religious

Oh! Just goes to show how long I've been out of the running. I'm sure there was some form of spanish stuff on there I used to record for my spanish speaking mother. I must be thinking of 30w. I must be. Could have sworn I used 43w for *something* though. Hmmm.. who knows! I think 30w from a position looking over the roof from the north east corner of the house as suggested above by Lancelot would be fine though.

I'm very interested in having a look at some feeds too... I hear that there's some NBC/CBS type stuff comes through to europe on Telstar 12. Am I right?

Plenty of Spanish on 30W :)

The Yankee feeds come and go. It is NOT the regular NBC/CBS channels. Every so often they disappear for a couple of weeks at a time, and there is much gnashing of teeth amongst those folks on the forum who enjoy Yankee entertainment.

Yep, I just love 90 seconds of wooden soap opera followed by 2minutes of things for sale that you don't need and have never heard of. (these important messages)

Ha ha love it! O-Ha I bet the breaks are similar to how they are on ABC1 on Sky Digital. You just start watching a show, the title sequence plays and boom...straight into the commercials!

Well it seems that most of the good stuff is within 30 degrees either side of south. Okay then. This evening, with the help of you good people, I have decided to:

1. Forget about the pole out front.

2. Get the 1m dish on the back of the house, looking over the roof.

3. Forget about 43w (heh)

4. Keep the trusty old 60cm on 13E...maybe I could put that on the pole but on the patio out back... or just leave it on its 3 breezeblocks (two to stop it rolling away and the third for the critically fine elevation adjustments)

You can get problems anywhere you site your dish, if someone wants to kick a ball or fire a slingshot then they'll do it.

I would put a lidl dish and LNB (both for under £20) on the pole, but a motor - maybe not.

If the kids play football out front it's only a matter of time that it gets hit by accident. A motorised dish is more likely to get banged off alignment more that a fixed dish.

Sadly yes - the screen is a lot brighter than old one we have.

Well, they're both my sons - honest...

He plays online all the time with kids from all over the world.

They trade stuff from Animal Crossing on sites like eBay.

I'll update my list - then your question will look funny - :-doh!

I have my dish ground mounted atm.. well i have 3 now :| the ground mounted one last year field mice chewed the cable. oh and my dish had a breif encounter with a fox with it cubs.. theres six of the thing living around the back of my house :|

im taking it down though as its too much hassle.. i have taken the motor off it.. and put my new dish up.. but im not happy with it on the house yet, the pole i use L shape. buckles when i mive west lol. so it drops off the arc.. im going to change that today and its a pick between a zone 2 and an 80cm :|

Yeah, various wildlife does sometimes chew through cables, I've had problems with mice. Seems to be some chemical that attracts them, in the outer insulation. Have you tried some of the "petproofing" products, for repelling cats, etc?
