Anyone help a complete noob??

Hey all,

I'm very new to all of this, I recently bought a dual lnb dish and technomate tm5500ci super.

I'm confident enough I can install the system, from reading your how to's guides, but I don't have clue what the reciever is capable of or what cams are and all of the info mentioned on software downloads and patches.

I would like to get the most out of my system, but just don't understand what I can do with it.

The main reason I bought it was to get Thai tv for the missus, but I know I can stick a motor on it later and swap the dual lnb for a quad.

I don't have any cams or cards, i don't know if the reciever is programmed, i'm a bit stuck really and would appreciate someone going back to basics to help me understand a little.

I also got the same Technomate and installed it 2 weeks ago without any problem. I have only the one LNB at the moment and the dish is pointed at Hotbird. I also got it for the Thai TV and radio for the wife but would like to explore the other channels available. With this in mind I have bought a "Gold Card" and a CAM is on it's way. I too would like to learn more about CAM's and programming so I am going to trawl the post's.

I think the best way for me and maybe for you is to get the system running FTA and then start experimenting. What do you think?

I agree, I will get the system up and running FTA, and have trawled lots of posts on here, but there is so much info its just a bit overwhelming.

I have read lots of articles on what CAMs are and cards are but it doesnt really tell me what I can do or watch with my system.

I plan to swap my dual for a quad lnb later and motorise it, hopefully by then I will have some idea of what i am doing.

As in life, it takes practical experience to really learn what your doing.

A Quad LNB is used to run four systems of the same LNB.

Do you mean fitting Two or four LNBs? This would give you the option with a DiSEqC switching (which your receiver has) of viewing four satellites with the one receiver.

If you are going to add a motor then you will only need a single universal LNB with the lowest noise (0.6 or 0.3).

I meant 4 lnb's, I have a twin now with Diseqc, i didn't know you only needed 1 with a motor.

saves me some money knowing that.

Hi Waldo, you only need 1 lnb 0.3 with Diseqc H-H motor, As for a cam you need to check the forum as to what suiets your needs. Just got rid of MRV and found it did almost everything I needed
