The poor old Saxo has developed a gearbox problem which wouldn't be economical to repair, so needs to go. First thought is to put it on Fleabay as spares or repair, but I see several companies claiming good prices for scrappers. Anyone tried them?

Thanks

I scrapped my last car, an old Peugeot 406, turbo, and engine, problems, making it far too expensive to repair. They picked it up, and paid, the price agreed, on collection.
Everything was done via the internet, I didn't even need to call them.

Last car I scrapped in the UK must have been 20 years ago, so cannot help re companies. But, if the bodywork, brakes etc are all good, can you not get a gearbox from a local scrapyard, i.e. from one that´s been shunted?

Not realistically. It's 15 years old and an auto. Best price I've seen for a box is 150 and by the time it's fitted it'd be more than the car is worth

You will get offered about next to nothing for it. That's the most i got offered for my old Vectra which weighs twice as much as a Saxo was £20. They will only give you scrap weight which is at a real low price at the moment.

Stick it on ebay for a "bring your own tools & strip for parts" listing, makes more money that way and what's left is usually worth naff all anyway... :)

Thanks. Ebay it is, but while agreeing that you're probably right, 2CV, I wouldn't want an impromptu breakers yard on the front of the house.

I used these 2 months ago , all went smooth , got paid BT after about a week from pick up . Remove My Car

If you jump on the roof a few times, a Saxo will just fit through the front door , allowing your clients to take everything they wish from the comfort of your hallway.

Remove my car offered me £19 for my old Vectra :-lmao

A whole pound less than the local scrap yard.

I would rather give it away then line somebody elses pocket with it. The engine alone is worth £100, and the Alloy wheels & Tyres another £100.

These scrap yards will quite happily rip you off rather than giving you a reasonable price knowing that they can make at least £500 on top of what they paid for it.

My story is the opposite , i got £41 for my old Megane 98 that others were offering £10 .

I guess you have to shop around .

Doh! Why didn't I think of that?....and be out of the weather too! :-rofl2

I took my 98 audi a4 to webuyanycar and got 135 for it.
230k on the clock
I loved that car... Every button worked till the last day.
They don't make em like that anymore
