Anyone using an Eagle Box:

How does the Eagle Box compare to the Dreambox 500? Is there much difference?
 
The Eagle is just another clone of the DM500, but they do give it very good support. With other clones you're on your own.

The thing to remember is to avoid Gemini images at all costs whatever you have. And that advice goes for original DM500s and any of the DM500 clones.
 
Don't bother buying one if you intend to go motorised as the Eaglebox is notoriously bad at operating a motor :mad:

If you are intending to motorise your dish, then don't get an Eaglebox :eek:

I've read the Dreambox 500 suffers the same problem, and that it's not the box, but a under rated plug-in power supply. Anyway apart from the motor control issue is there any other reason to avoid the Eagle Box? Thanks for all the replies.
 
Save yourself the hassle and buy a decent box to start with.

I uprated the power supply on mine to a 3amp one and it still wouldn't operate the motor properly. They are a pile of junk to be avoided at all costs :-omg

Luckily i managed to punt it on losing only £5 on it. If you want a DM go for the 600 PVR as a minimum.

Mine operates the motor (Which is 25m away from the receiver) with no problems at all :D

Already mentioned poor PSU
Probably subject to same Gemini Image/Clone problem
Look my fingers are getting tired

Suppose you give me one good reason to buy one :)

That's a problem with Gemini, not the Eagle Box, nor the clones.

I'm looking for an entry level into 4:2:2 (and maybe to experiment with IP streaming and CS). £250 for the most basic current Dreambox (without hard drive) seems a lot of money to me. What do you suggest?

£250 for any stb that is old technology is certainly a lot of money
If the Eagle meets all your requirements and most importantly your pocket what is the purpose of the thread?

To find out other people's opinions and experiences of course. The Eagle Box would cost me 95€. For that amount or similar what else is out there that allows access to 4:2:2?

If you want to go for something completely different try the newly released Technomate 500 at about the same price.

Linux based, but not a direct clone of the DM500.
