(Reuters) - Apple Inc co-founder and former CEO Steve Jobs, counted among the greatest American CEOs of his generation, died on Wednesday at the age of 56, after a years-long and highly public battle with cancer and other health issues.
Jobs' death was announced by Apple in a statement late on Wednesday.

Whilst I have no Apple products (apart from a broken iPod Mini I played with unsuccessfully) I cannot deny him his vision and skill. Apple will be hard pressed to keep the momentum they had under his leadership.
 
I've never bought into the Apple hype, but there is no doubting his vision and leadership, RIP Steve.

And who cannot admire his courage and determination in remaining at the forefront for the many years he has suffered from the most unpleasant and debilitating conditions.
 
Yes, a sad loss to computing technology. Only have an iPhone myself, was never into other products from the company.

Apple's market research consisted of Steve Jobs looking at himself in the mirror in the morning.
 
My friend in Texas told me about this sometime around 2am (UK time of course), and it didn't really come as a surprise given his ill health...

He actually once met Jobs' partner in Apple, Steve Wozniak, funnily enough in an Apple store (he was taking one of his old Macbooks in for repair), and apparently nobody there actually knew that it was him until my friend started up a conversation with him... :)

It is funny how Apple had actually seeded a lot of what we use today, the graphical OS, point & click, the mouse itself, digital audio compression, and of course the more recent inventions like the iphone and ipad, both featuring the iOS which other manufacturers have competed with (Google's Android, HP's Discontinued WebOS, Nokia's Symbian, etc.), I may not like the Apple platform, but hats off to them for essentially kickstarting the personal computer revolution... :)
