Hi , I want to start a new post, but could not ( does not know how ) start a new post.

I am forwarding my question as areply to this thread.
I install ed a 100CM dish to get Asiasat 4 ( living in wellington New zealand). But I could not get any channels.
My meter indicat the signal, but zero quality.

Could you please help me to set up asiasat 4.

I have experience setting up dish for Optus d1 and d2, my meter shows whenit detect right direction to d1 nad d2.

But could not get anything from Asiasat4

Shouldn't be any problem for you for that satellite. Are you sure you are correctly aligned on it?

I belive i have done it right. 274 azymuth from magnatic north.
I turned left and right, up/down, could not get any quality.
I typed freq and s/r on the meter, does not show any quality.

Tried several freq on this satellite.

I am using 110cm dish.

I f I can get any free channel, I knoe I am on right direction.

I belive I have good dish and LNB.

thanks for your comments
I am trying to focus it to D2 first, to confirm my dish and LNB today.
Then I will turn it to AS4, that is my plan today.

Which channels are you after?

The Chinese stuff on 12402V is DVB-S2 according to Lyngsat, so you will need S2 equipment to try to view it. Looks like your best bet might be the stuff on 12430V with normal hobby equipment

It should come in, does your receiver have the ability to scan this symbol rate ?

hi

is it possible to tell with dish pointer, the installaation can be possible to the given address.
when i get obstacals on dishpointer, it give same obstacal readings , what ever the address I typed.

Thhere are mountans, building etc on the way, but dish pointer gives the same reading, installation can be go ahed.
But Asiasat 4 is at low horizon, I think installation cannt be done because of high ground or mountan is on the way.

Much apprecite if any body can explain how to analyse dish pointer obstacles.

Asiasat 4 should be at about 19 degrees elevation at your location, that's 19 degrees above the horizon. You could cut out a bit of cardboard into a triangular shape with a 19deg angle. Hold it exactly horizontal using a spirit level and point it in the right direction for the satellite. Hold it up to your eye and look up the slope of the triangle and see if you can see clear sky from the location you plan to install the dish.

One thing you could do is look up your location and the satellite on the Sun Outage Calculator if you still haven't figured out exactly where the satellite is at the beginning of April:
_http://www.satellite-calculations.com/SUNcalc/SUNcalc.htm

When the sun aligns directly behind the satellite (twice a year in the spring and autumn) you'll be able to see how high or low it is behind any mountains or trees and where the sun shines reception should be possible.

Ah I see the problem - the Austalia beam doesnt cover New Zealand. Only the C-band beam is available in Kiwiland.

You cant receive it so find something else to watch instead.
