Dont expect much apart from blank carriers - its rare SES transits anything else during commissioning tests.

This 36 Ku tps will replace Astra 1H at 19.2 East. I expect stronger beam may reach Middle East and North Africa.

Hello!
very intresting would be,is the number of satelites, that can be copositoioned on one orbital postion, realy unlimted, when astra, lunch every 2 year,2 satelates, then in 10 years we have 30 satelites,or more,on one positons:)
but before this happens, maybe the freqency range,of todays lnbs, will be extended,i think, 13-14 ghz range would be also would be also posible,i hope, that this will come so,then picture compresion,to save transponder coasts,is not that, what the people wants, when alwas more and more channels will coming,on hotbird alone currencly 2500,and more with radio channels, sooner or later the freqency range, must be extended,we will see what the future will bring :)

I think the maximum in Europe co-located so far has been 7 (Astra 1's at 19E) and 6 (Hotbirds at 13E)

Dont forget the satellite companies dont launch 2 satellites every year - many years none are launched. Theres a fair few launches at the moment as the companies are renewing existing capacity - remember most satellites are replacement capacity NOT new capacity.

The frequency range CANT be extended - the adjacent spectrum isnt empty - much of it is used by the military and other organisations. It would take years to get international agreement to clear out 13 / 14 GHz. SES cant just start transmitting in an adjacent band just because they have run out of space :D

The next big jump in tecuhnology will be Ka band transmissions.

Any idea what/where/who this sat is for? Is it to go to 19 East as in post 3 or is it for something else?

Thanks

:)
yes kaband has many range,up to 27 ghz,you can buy the lnbs, from norsat for e.g!
the italian telekom, sends in kaband on 16 east, up to 14 ghz,but this channels ,are non listed,in the current, channel databases:)

astra ,and all other satelite ,operators, must always have enough backup capaticy.,when a satelite,or transponders goes fault,to have enough backup space!

so i could imagine, when always, more and more, channels starts, that the must lunch more satelites,in the same period of time!
,also the positions,of satelites, are strong limited, and when a satelite, operator, wants to have, the right,to send on position X,for example,he must buy the right for,to dont loose the right, for sending,a programm must be transmited, otherwise, the postion,is sale, for another, this happens,on some not so importent satelite positions,in the past, but ,i dont know the name of the bird in the moment!

,to most comon problem,in 10 years would be,that most satelite operators, from difrent countrys, cannot make copostion, like astra, because, the always, need there own postions!
around,2 years ago,i found an intresting report,during surfing,that only one organisation,has the assignment,to coordinate,this postions wordwide!
us we can see, somtimes,on serval orbital postions, the space, between some satelites for eg. 7.-8 west,or 19.2 east, and 21.5 are very little, this results in very strange problems

here to of them!

first the orf transponder,around 2 years ago,there was a channels,on 21.5 east,that sending,on the exact same freqency,then orf,then ,many people,get problems,with orf recetipon,and orf hotline,was complitly overloaded,with people,that has reception problems!
the analyse of that,results in that,that,most dishes,has not point exactly,to the astra satelite,and the ,angel,of aperature,on small dishes,are much bigger,then on the bigger ones,this results,in signals interaction!

inside europe, the freqencys are coordinated, that are not use the same, but when the programm, comes form difrent country, like badr,we get a ot of problems,in out of footprint reception, some day, when the postions ,are all rented, same on 26east badr and 28,5,most problem,to catch this birds,in out of footprint reagion,is the mirror beam,of stronger nabour satelites!

also,we can see this,of some astra satelites, reception problems,in greece,on the astra satelites, that mirror beams swapping, and make footprint rececption imposible,or very hard!

the other senario, what dr dish told us ,in the past,in an old show,is that ,one transponder beams, are used on the same freqency!
for eg,on tve freqency,in spain, you can watch tve,and in germany ard!

when this comes, our satellite,is hobby is done forrever!

okay,now iam finish!:)

SES got their fingers burned when Astar 1K was destroyed in a botched launch in 2002 - they had published all the technical details - which we promptly nabbed for safe storage! Nowadays most information is held back until well after launch

I also read somewhere that the launch of 1M will allow SES to relocate other satellites to its 23.5e slot :confused

Once 1M is in commercial traffic the last plan I read was to relcate 1H to 23.5E to allow further expansion of that slot - which is filling up fast.

Actually Im surprised they havent been published yet. However, the sat fleet part of the SES web site has been broken for weeks

You have to be a member for a month AND have a certain number of posts - I think its currently 20.

We had to introduce these limits as we had a spate of folks joining up and using the pm system to spam other members.
