Hi folks i want to get Astra 1 on a old Sly mini dish. What number do i set the lnb on. I know i set it on number 3 for Astra 2. Thanks, Happy New Year.

Trial and error, but as the skew range permitted by Sky LNB is quite narrow, I suggest "1" might be worth a try.

Depending upon where you are in England, the signal might be so strong that skew error won't have much practical effect.

I,m in Berkshire i,ll give it a go on 3 then try it on 1 but as you said it,s a strong signal so should,nt be a problem... Thanks

Three on the Sky LNB is for central Scotland!, Totally agree with Tivu to find Astra 1 you need not worry about the skew, even up here it comes lamping in despite incorrect skew on a Zone 2.

............... and virtually all of England!

I have never seen a Sky LNB that isn't at "3".

Actually, I lie: I had one set at "1" myself when using a minidish for 5W. No problems there, either. Boom, boom.

Love the old 5W, must be the strongest western sat?

Indeed it is (or was - 1N might have taken the top spot now)

When I installed a Sky mini dish in Helsinki for Astra 1 I found I wasn't getting a good signal due to the limited skew options so in the end I just skewed the whole dish and the signal shot up to decent levels. ;) It's worked great like that even in heavy rain, just looks a bit odd (but luckily it's 3 floors up so not too obvious).

Yep, that the best way ............ did that during experiments to get western beams of 42E.

If its a MK 2 Sky dish you can mod a MTI LNB holder with a stanley knife so easy!

A while ago I thought about getting one of those little Zinwell quad LNBs off eBay as they come with a more traditional 40mm LNB clamp so can be skewed to any angle but to be honest this dish works well as it is so I haven't bothered. I'm sure the original poster won't have any issues in the UK.

Looks like then leave the lnb on 3 and just skew the dish if need be. Thanks for all the replys.

Skewing a minidish after setup, will alter the alignment and you'll have to re-align., easier to adjust LNB skew.

Think i,ll leave the lnb on 3 as it,s strong, should be no problem.
