Hi I am new to this forum but I am also interested in the reception of astra.
I come from germany but we currently live in amman/jordan.

I visited a friend from the german embassy recently and they recieved all frequencies of astra 1H and 1Mwidebeam.
Today I reajusted the PFA from hotbird to astra 1M using the widebeam frequencies.
The dish is 1.80m.
The 1Mwide is pretty strong I get a signal quality of 100% (picture below)

I can recieve all frequencies of the 1Mwide but nothing 1h/1kr/1l :(
When i set a 1kr frequency I get a signal quali of 4% when setting a 1H i get 1-2%

Why can my friends recieve 1H , they live only 10-15 KM away and have also 1.8m as they sayd.

I will try again tomorrow maybe its the weather.

Hello

Welcome to the forum saadi

First I have detatched your post from the thread you tagged onto please start your own thread for your own questions
Also I would request that you upload any pictures to our server rather than link to somewhere else, I have done these for you

You are outside the footprint of the beams you are wanting

_http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/astra1kr.html

So it is true fringe reception requiring a very large dish I would suspect. There are often hotspots or sidelobes that can be received by some only a few Km away

And would a big 2.40m dish help?

Ill try to contact that guy who set up the dish for those from the german embassy maybe he can help

But so far so good when i combine with hotbird i have three germans more thats good enough:D

i think you would need to maybe go to 3metre or even more if you really want those 1h channels but as your in a fringe reception area you we cant say what size dish you will need to receive more on 19east, as it is just try it and see what you get.

also is that a c120 lnb as you might be best of trying a invacom quad lnb these are know to be good on large dishes

i would say a good 3.7 like andersen dish combined with a good lnb would do the job for your channels

Ok as I said ill contact the man who set up astra for those guys maybe he can help me..
thank you anyway for your responses!

Sorry Saadi, i just realized ur talking about the Astra 19.2. I have astra 19.2 on a 3.6m dish in Amman-jordan. If u still have any problems and need any help please let me know.

Does this forum have a PM function? I cant find it.

The 3.6m dish is it solid?
Can you also try reception with your solid 1.8 meter dish?

PM functions are restricted to members who joined some time ago and who have a minimum post count of around 30. This had to be implemented to stop people joining in order to abuse the PM system.

What 3.6 m dish are you referring to and who is the question aimed at?

edit There are only solid dishes of that diameter as far as I know ah I have just spotted powels profile, he has a 3.4 mtr mesh in there mmm

Such large dishes have extremly sharp focal point, so you need very exact adjustment. Also, such dishes have powerful sidelobes, so you may be receiving signal with sidelobe. Here with 1.5m primefocus dish I often get high freq. transponders of 1H. Going to 2m gives stable reception, and going to 3M brings in 1L, which is very strange (No trace of 1KR)

Hi Saadi, can u please let me know what transponders u want me to try for you on Astra 19.2 and will let you know. I also wanted to pm you to help but couldnt.

By the way Saadi my dish is a 3.4 mesh dish

Hi Saadi, Astra 19.2 1H, I do recieve there transponders on the 3.4m dish, they are 12344h, 12363v, 12422h,12692h. You need to note im getting 80% quality signal on my dreambox, so forget recieving those signals on the 1.8 dish meter. Also, the signals I mentioned before do weaken even more even with the 3.4m dish.

Astra 1KR, I rarely recieve any transponders, maybe in summer for few hours I recieve the digital plus spain in amman jordan for few hours, so Astra 1kr is hopeless in Amman on a 3.4m dish

Astra 1L is a hopeless case too, Cant recieve those with a 3.4m dish too. If there is any help u need let me know.

hi powel000,
many thanx for your report
sorry to tell you mesh dishes are not good reference for KU-band Signals,do you have access to a 3.70 solid dish there??i mentioned Andersen before ,those dishes are quite famous around cyprus and greece and i know they give very good performance..cheers

Thanks Pipino, You are right, Andersen dish is one of the best, but in all honesty they are rare in Jordan, and they will cost lot of money to import here with taxes and shipping. All I have seen here is the perfect 10 dish mesh which they dont make anymore. The paraclypse are rare to come by, but I got my hands on one few years back. I mainly use the prarclypse solid 2.40 for Hispasat.

Thank you for reply!

Can you recieve those astra 1H frequencies :12545 H , 12051 V and 11954 H

As i said it seems that at certain areas inside amman a 1.8 meter dish is enough to recieve those sidelobes of astra 1h as mentioned above.

If you have a 3.4 mesh dish it is not efficient in Ku band so should a 2.4 meter dish be enough?
Do you know how much JD they cost here in amman?

when i get the number of the guy who sets up dishs with astra i will ask him about the actual reception status here in amman

For me no 12545h, 12051 I get 76% during the day on dreambox probably lower at night, 11954 hopeless case. i really dont think a solid 2.4m would make a huge difference. I would not invest that amount of money unless I know for sure. As for the 2.4m paraclypse solid are very hard to find, and I dont think you will find a new on in amman, maybe a used one and expect to pay a premium.

Hm ok so i think i have to stay with astra 1M wide however it is better than nothing, hoping that MTV Network wont change the transponder and go from the widebeam

Edit: ill try to get a analogue reciever to see if i get the rest of 1M Wide, lots of german channels still analogue :S

I am really curious to use an analogue reciever again .. didnt use one since 2001 .. god old analogue times :D
