ASTRA 19.2E, where have my channels gone?

I had to take down my dish for a few months, now on putting it back I find a huge number of new channels on 19.2 E, mostly Arabic and SKY in Italian, but so many of my favourites have gone :eek:.........I use a comag SL45 HDMI with a 40cm dish and basic LNB.....it was mainly German Spanish Dutch and French channels I watched, Sat1, RTL2, BAHN TV,CNN, bbc world ,EUROSPORT, arte, ...all gone:confused:........they're all still showing on the channels menu, but I get a 'no signal' message...........have they all simply gone HD? or moved their position?
 
Welcome to the forum.

Fairly simple one to answer, you've locked the dish up on 13e instead of Astra1. On that size dish it'll be the next available satellite to the East.
 
Yup your dish is aligned on 13E not 19E :D

An easy mistake to make - and well done in getting ANYTHING! :)
 
Wow thats good news:)...........with such a small dish and restricted line of sight I thought I was lucky to get even one satellite, so never really looked beyond 19.2 e, I shall be more adventurous in future! The dish is of the portable type for caravans etc, bought ages ago as part of a complete system very cheap from Lidl. It came with its own sat finder now long lost. Because my Financial Advisor wouldn't allow the funds for a wall fitting, the dish is positioned at head height only, and I have to aim it between some very tall trees in a nearby garden. To find a satellite I stand in the back garden and try as delicately as possible tweak the dish as I watch the TV screen in the house. Picture and sound quality are generally excellent, when I lock on to a signal that is. Now to tweak from 13 to 19 sounds really delicate and in the past I've sometimes found myself standing in the cold for rather longer than I'd expected, but it'll be worth it to get our favourites back in time for Xmas. :) The German channels in particular have some wonderful live concerts during this time, also Rai Uno.
 
You need to move the dish so the lnb moves about the width of the cap and up a fraction. That will put you in the right ball park area anyway.

I suggest you mark the mounting bolts up with pencil, tippex, paint or something before you start so you can quickly reset if you get hopelessly lost!
 
If you can ahem acquire an old Sky dish then theres no reason why you cant buy a disecq switch for a tenner align the new dish onto 13E and have both 19E & 13E for minimal outlay.


Theres some fascinating stuff on 13E - just last night I spent a happy hour doing some detective work on a new channel that appeared a few days ago and came to the conclusion its a channel from Kazakhstan :D

OK I cant understand it but I like watching the news shows and seeing new places :D

3Sat have their New Year's Eve 24hr Pop Around The Clock which is usually the business.
 
that sounds interesting :) yes i love live music, and all those Bavarian cowboy music channels :) and I too love to search for new chAnnels, so my financial advisor can relax, :) its great to know that i dont need to call in a dish installer, but can experiment with the dish as it is....i wonder if hotbird is out of range, a report follows, thanks chaps, a foaming tankard of of cool bier is on its way :)

Yup - 13E is the home of Hotbirds 6 8 & 9 :)

You might get Eurobird 9A at 9E as well - thats a nice high powered slot and an easy find.
 
Once you experiment and get the hang of things, maybe consider a 70/80cm with 6deg monobloc to give you 13e /19e, without the need to cable in a DiSEqC switch.

thats all very useful info, its hard to believe i get anything at all with those trees so close, but i get a great picture and audio on 13e and 19.2e, so why not go for more.:) ...........actually i can get an 80cm dish for a song, but it would prove too heavy for my present arrangement,but once the risk of frostbite subsides i shall see about finding a more suitable spot, without losing that precious line of sight..........a report follows
 
A Triax TD65 60cm and a monoblock LNB will be fine, it is not heavy.

I have used one up here in the past, aligned to 13e and I have lost none of the channels on 13e or 19e even in the worst winter weather. So it will be no problem in London. Align on one of the weakest transponders on 13e, 11054 H 27500.
 
Should be okay although monobloc's are designed for 80's but will perform fine on smaller dishes.
 
The monoblock LNB I used was a Smart Titanium.
 
help was most appreciated.........i have finally found astra 19.2e again, lost the odd finger in the process due to frostbite, but surely a small price to pay......:-thumbup..............
 
Update.......................19.2e is gone again, i can only get hotbird now, but, because i deleted the hated hotbird sat from search menu, the receiver now calls Hotbird ''Astra 19.2e'' instead of what it is, and identifies every channel as being on 19.2e.................no amount of tweaking dish makes any difference at all......its hotbird or nothing...........ideas gratefully received.............
