One of the thing I noticed when reading about this was they seem to be selling a TV and Broadband service combined. So why would the middle east point their broadband receivers at a european satellite if they want their TV?

the following link says 2E, 2F and 2G broadband will be aimed at Europe and Africa.

As the people who said 1N would have a very tight spot beam were the same people who said there would be frequency reuse I have to ask; are the claims of frequency reuse causing fring reception problems a load-of-rubbish? If not then can we have a link to a reliable source?

The only claims I've read about frequency reuse on this forum is with regards to 2E, 2F and 2G. When this happens there will be problems in the areas where the frequency is reused but it's not happening yet.

The Astra 1N spot beam is pretty tight to the east, and working as it should to the west.

So basically what has Astra 1N brought to UK viewers so far? It just looks like a massive testing platform:)

No new religious nutters, no new girls reclining on solid sofas, no new teleshopping, no new outlet for fox next war promotion, no new murdoch programs, ...

But I think channel 5 did know why they just said "before christmas" ;-)

If 1N really goes online at 28E before its moved to its next position it will be the best tested sat ever

(Or maybe it is build just to transmitt two tp/channel at a time ?)

The tps. 11123V, 11126V and 11127V are received with L- and Q- = 99-100%.(L- is much higher compared to tps. BBC, CH4 and ITV on 2D. Q- = 99-100%). Tp 11171H was a bit of a mess. L- and Q- was 99-100% but only as DVB-S, and Left and Right polarisation gave the same readings. As I tried to save/lock this, I only saved it as a radio tp., and this I have never experienced before. The dish could be moved approx. 2-2,5 degr. and still the same readings. At the moment 11171H and 11165H are zero.

A good advice would be appreciated.

"Extra Capacity" so they say (remember though that even as it is now, 1n at 28 is doing exactly what astra prommised, it`s providing extra capacity, just because no one is using it <or next to no one> doesnt mean it`s not doing a job it was promissed to do)

To be honest untill we get any feed back from our african members, as far as we know the "UK spot" as everyone calls it, could be pointing to africa or nigiria and sending them their local tv broadcasts as we talk now, it might only be the uk broadcasters dragging their asses so to speak

It makes sense now to add 1N to 28 before sending it to 19 because that way they can see what extra space is needed on 2e, 2f and 2g going by who signs up on 1n
 
I actually believe that Astra 1n is being used on SS2 and Sky news in SD. The transport stream has been 07ea today....

Well if it is coming from 1N it's coming in here (south east UK) with identical power to the old Astra 2B transponder... I doubt it would be so similar.
 
The 07ea transport stream means a TID of 2026. This TID according to KOS is 11171 h 22000 5/6 Astra 1n

I wouldn't rely too much on KOS or any other user updated web site at the moment. It wasn't long ago they all started to incorrectly report all 2D transponders where transferred to 1N...

Haven't seen anything on 11.171/H here for a few days (UK)

Well there have been a few posts with a very pessimistic point of view to say the least. Whether the people posting that pessimism really believe the full extent of what they post, or are just trying to provoke some sort of emotional response from expats, or both is open to interpretation, but it is true that frequency reuse is possible and on some satellites is already in use. Turksat is one example where there is frequency reuse, but target audiences are located much further apart than the UK/Spain example often cited.
 
An awful example of frequency reuse is a number of vertical polarization frequencies (i.e. 10722V, 10758V, 10806V, etc) of Amos 2 and 3 from European and Middle East beams. Those two beams are not so "tight" and they collide at their boundaries, which happen to be in my region (south Aegean, Crete). So it is not possible to receive here any of those frequencies, because they interfere each other with catastrophic results...

7AM = 9.9dB
10AM = 10.2dB
2:40PM = 9.2dB
3:30PM = 8.9dB
Right now (4:56PM) = 8.0dB

The Turksat spotbeams must cause problems ie over Southern italy as they look to me to overlap

You are right,not because those who updates the website telling lies, but because the tests that are done with this new satellite tell us more than what we find ourselves ..In other words, less frecquencies, many words :)
Since we have no official statement from the SES on transponders to be used by Astra 1N, and for a few days,we,users,are most excited by the great event of the launch of this satellite.We fill many topics about Astra 1N without convince anyone if we do not have many active transponders.For several days we talk only about three transponders, and in fact only one is permanent, on this satellite without being sure what the spots and the transponders will be used.So far Astra 1N only managed to socialize us, those who have passion for special receptions and no other satellite has awakened a passion so great. :).And that's something though!!!
We{talk about myself :)} look to the sky to hunt next active transponder :)
 
10964 H was switched on about 10 min ago. No lock yet, but pretty constellations showing.
