10964 H was switched on about 10 min ago. No lock yet, but pretty constellations showing.

Yes I'm picking up random bits of data on that frequency as weel. How long before something? A week?

Q is about 10% lower than 11126 v but it's test signal. No channels yet.

10964 H 22000 lock now.
Also 11053 H just switched on, just like 10964 H starting with a circle constellation.

Certainly that is the U.K. spot!

Well there have been a few posts with a very pessimistic point of view to say the least. Whether the people posting that pessimism really believe the full extent of what they post, or are just trying to provoke some sort of emotional response from expats, or both is open to interpretation, but it is true that frequency reuse is possible and on some satellites is already in use. Turksat is one example where there is frequency reuse, but target audiences are located much further apart than the UK/Spain example often cited.

The only free bit of bandwidth at the moment at 28.2E is between 10.94GHz-11.22GHz and that is being filled up right now with extra transmissions from 1N. Therefore, if there are going to be extra beams into Africa and the Middle East on the next three satellites 2F, 2E, 2G, then they'll also have to share some of these same frequencies already in use. Astra 2B is already sharing the similar frequencies to Eurobird 1 for the Nigerian West African spot, but luckily that is not a problem in Europe.

Now I have two additional "mounds" without data.

10.964 H 22000 quality is 90% near London, UK. Exact same strength as 11.127 V and about 10% higher than any other readings from 28.2E.

i can lock 10964 but 11053 keeps jumping off and on it seems to be using circulation left or horenixtal as it seems to try lock on both

11053 is using symbol rate 22000

11.053 H 22000 is now locking with a lower quality of 81%. This could be a wider beam?

10964 H, 11053 H and 11127 V are all about the same quality here in the Netherlands (between 19.5 and 20.0 dB, Dr. HD F16 & 100 cm).

1096 4H L- and Q- = 99-100%

11053

10964 H L- and Q- = 99 - !00%

11053 H L- =90%, Q- = 100%

got them all locked now all with 99% snr and 85% agc

11053 = Qty 94%

Remember this is on a PC card with Transedit - I don't have as great equipment as you lot.

It that based on fact or rumour?

One of the thing I noticed when reading about this was they seem to be selling a TV and Broadband service combined. So why would the middle east point their broadband receivers at a european satellite if they want their TV?

the following link says 2E, 2F and 2G broadband will be aimed at Europe and Africa.

_http://www.astrium.eads.net/en/programme/astra-2e-astra-2f-astra-2g-and-astra-5b-added-flexibility-and-improved.html

As the people who said 1N would have a very tight spot beam were the same people who said there would be frequency reuse I have to ask; are the claims of frequency reuse causing fring reception problems a load-of-rubbish? If not then can we have a link to a reliable source?

Terry

Oh its most definitely true - its in the press release announcing the 3 new Astra 2 birds

Wide beams with spots for the UK, Nigeria, Middle East & Russia, spread across the three new birds.

The reason for the new coverage areas is simple - the existing satellite slots are almost full but the demand for capacity is still growing, therefore the satellite operators need to open up new slots. Its almost impossible to get new orbital slots opened up these days so they start doubling up capacity on existing slots.

(Exactly like the current Nigeria beam on Astra 2B.)

Quality was fluctuated a bit from 81-90% and has just gone off.

On the 7020 10964H 22000 5/6

SNR 89%
AGC 96%
BER 0

No channels scan.

11053H 22000 5/6

I had a brief lock with:

SNR jumping around 83-86%
AGC 96/97%
BER around 5000-8000

but atm its either changing mode or going on and off rapidly

EDIT - its just locked up properly:

SNR 95%
AGC98%
BER 0

I can't get a lock on 10964H

11053H now back on with 90% quality in Bucks, UK

situation in Budapest right now, with 120 cm dish

we have here 2D H-polar from 3m and up,
V-pol is almost 24h with 120cm

:) . :)
