Hers the extra out of Europe info from the SES Worldskies website:

ASTRA 2E | Brand New Steerable Capacity for Middle East
Astra 2E satellite scheduled for launch in early 2013 will provide new incremental capacity with the coverage of Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan and the Gulf region to support DTH, VSAT and government applications.

The satellite will feature a steerable beam to other regions including Kazakhstan and connectivity to Europe through broadband Ka-band interconnect.

ASTRA 2F | Upgrading and Enhancing our African Neighborhood
Astra 2F satellite scheduled for launch in the second quarter of 2012 will carry a dedicated SES WORLD SKIES payload to expand our capacity into Africa.

The satellite will provide a substantially enhanced coverage including high power for West Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, Rwanda and Burundi.

The ME spot on 23ºE is Ka broadband, no DTH. To me it doesn't make sense having DTH for the ME on 28ºE. It's too close to 26ºE making a monoblock impossible, and too far from 7ºW, making two dishes a necessity for both cases.

If you are going to use that argument then why have SES just orbited Yahsat 1A to provide KU access to the Middle East which is slotted at 52.5E. Most countries dont have a problem with multiple dishes on housers.......

Its all new capacity - the ME & India are amongst the fastest growing areas for DTH atm.

It's a practical slot for the Middle East, within 20º of the local meridian.

It was only a hypothetical situation - but I ask you to consider - what happens when 30W & 19E are full in a few years time?? They will need extra capacity from somewhere. And 6 years ago we would never have predicted that Eutelsat would open 9E up as overspill to 13E, or SES would open up 23.5E as an overspill for 19E.

This might be true for some other areas, but is not specifically applicable to the Canaries, which was the object of BP's post, considering their particular links with the main Spanish Peninsula about satellite broadcasting

For those interested, the launch is due this Friday around 10:30. You can watch on 11023H 22.00 5/6. Not sure when the actual broadcast begins. For those that can't watch at 19.2e you can visit _www.videocorner.tv/index.htm

A shame that SES can't have a channel on @ 28e seen as the satellite will be used there. Don't they realise people in the UK don't always have a mult-sat setup? Still, I'll be sat watching that, and with the joys of multisat FOC boxing on RTL Sat night.

Ive already asked SES to reconsider & remember the folks in the UK.

It will be available via the net as well via the Arianespace site of course, but that depends on having a reasonable bb connection - I remember trying to watch one launch and we went from zero to about 500 feet in 2 frames!! :D

Yep, spotted your comment via Facebook, we need to organise a trip to Betzdorf and pay them a visit. I have always wanted to visit, but can't see them doing tours for members of the public.

Nope not up when I looked half an hour ago. If they follow the usual form it'll come on tomorrow or Thursday.

(The 3D tile channel looks MOST peculiar when viewed using vlc player on my computer! :D

I only use it for the mpeg 4 DVB channels that dont show up on the 7020 any other way (oh and for 4:2:2 feeds :D)

It only runs at 2fps on the HD channels but its good enough for screenies :D

Yes, noticed than one when it appeared. Something called tile HD. Checked it on my (2D) TV and still the same, although the blurb mentioned in the link says it should be OK on a 2D TV. Or perhaps I've misread.

Where did you get the channel info i like others enjoy watching the launch and as NASA only has one launch left that hopefully will be on a AP news channel on 10E 10970 4167 H 5/6.. AS has a list of the AP feeds listed.
