Hi,
I have a fixed Triax 1m dish with one octo LNB pointing to Astra 2 and I want to install the triple LNB holder as in the picture.
I want to transfer the Octo LNB to the new holder and add a further two LNB's for Astra 1 and Hotbird.

Can anyone advise me of the correct way round for the 'P' shaped lnb holders (as in the picture left to right) and also which lnb (Astra 2, Astra 1 & Hotbird) should go in which holder (left to right in pic) and which satellite should I initially align the dish up to in when doing the initial setup.

I've found this thread, which may answer most of my questions but any other contributions would be gratefully received.

It is possible to get all three sats on a fixed dish with 3x LNBs in that sort of holder, but there will likely be problems.

Essentially, in the view that you show, the 28E Astra 2 LNB should be on the right, the 19E Astra 1 LNB in the middle and the 13E Hotbird LNB on the left - and that would work fairly well with normal single/twin LNBs.

However, the OCTO is a large and heavy unit, and so installing that (with the associated cables) on one end of the bar will inevitably tend to cause it to "sag"at that end - to say nothing of the pendulum effect in any sort of wind, because the whole arm and LNB holder assembly will then wave around a lot!

You might get away with adding stabilizing bars from the LNB arm to the edges of the dish face, and then additional straps from the ends of the triple LNB bar to those stabilizing arms - see attached shot of one of my 90cm dishes with that sort of arrangement (before I rejigged it a couple of days ago to have only 3x LNBs)

You can get the bars from B&Q and they cost a couple of quid each, the additional straps are basically perforated straps for car exhaust hangers and the like. You also need a method of connecting the straps to the stabilizer bars and I use jubillee clips.

Setting that lot up will then be an "interesting" task!

Your location would help a lot. If you want UK free TV from 28E as putting that lnb off centre would cause significant loss of signal if you are quite a way south or east of the UK footprint.

p or q is not really relevant, only directly above the arm you don't really have a choice.
I'd put 13E and 19E left of the arm (as seen on your picture), and 28E right. The 19E-holder should be a p, to get the LNB about above the arm.

First set the needed tilt for the multifeedholder, depending on where you are in West-Scotland (your indication is to broad) it should be about 15-17 degrees against the horizontal.
Then align, and finetune, the dish to 19E.
After that, slide the other LNBs along the mutlifeedrail, to get reception on the other LNBs.
After that, it might be benificial to the reception of 13E and 28E (at the expense of the reception of 19E) to lower the dish elevation a little little bit, to get a better compromise for the clarkebelt curve in your setup.

Edit: after that, finetune the LNB-skew. 13E should be about -8 degrees, 19E about -7 degrees, 28E about -15.5 degrees; minus meaning counterclockwise when looking from dish to satellite.

That's the lookalike copy of the Triax TD series multi LNB rail kit you have there, the aluminium rail is actually longer than the Triax one, the only problem I have with that particular kit is the actual holders, there a lot thinner than the proper Triax ones. What make of Octo LNB do you have? I would say go for the standard of dual focus on 13E & 19E and have the 28E as the further away offset.

That's the lookalike copy of the Triax TD series multi LNB rail kit you have there, the aluminium rail is actually longer than the Triax one, the only problem I have with that particular kit is the actual holders, there a lot thinner than the proper Triax ones.

And this rail probably puts the LNBs 19mm higher than the focal point; see 4 x Inverto Black Ultra op Triax 78 of 88??

Not ideal, but workable with a 100 cm dish I think.

Edit: I read somewhere that this SAB-rail is bent upwards a bit? Then the little little elevation adjustment I described earlier should hardly be necessary.
With the Triax-rail, without the upward bend, the little little adjustment might be benificial.

Interesting point there @a33 I don't remember the SAB brand rail being bent along its length as well as being curved to match the surface of the dish, I will dig the one I have out to see.

Oh and a wee add on to this, I don't use the Triax rail as it was intended, I use it modded to allow for a primary focused sat with offsets rather than its in-between focused setup.

@a33 well blow me there is a slight curve, about 2-3 mm off flat either end when you push the rail flat to the surface in the centre, see pic here of me early:

So not much but there never the less, also means this rail has "facing up" side to consider, I would mark the "top" side with a black dot with a Sharpie or the like so you don't have to second guess yourself later whilst installing it.
