hi all
after a long time of trying for Astra 28 degrees east in middle east (Yemen) city Sanaa

finally i succeed to receive some tps. of Southern Europe beam
using my 2.4 Eurostar dish

Nice catches!

Make the most of them - these are all on Astra 2A south beam & 2A will be withdrawn from 28E in the not too distant future.

Eurostar dishes are rebadged Jonsa AKA FortecStar? It's a panelled dish with circular base to the support?
 
That's an exceptional catch in Yemen, considering that under Astra's own footprint maps not even Athens lies within the 1.2m contour for the 2A South beam. I'm going to take an educated guess that it's a side lobe of the beam in question.

As to why Astra satellites tend to be rather limited in their coverage, their satellites (at least those intended for the European DTH markets) have always tended to have powerful but rather tight footprints as opposed to Eutelsat. Take for example Hot Bird's 13 East footprints where a 1.0 to 1.1 metre dish should allow coverage from the Azores to the Afghanistan/Pakistan borders, the only Astra satellite footprint that comes even close to such a span is 1M's wide footprint which it's 1.2 metre contour stretches from the desolate eastern Greenland to Dubai.

Very impressive, nice one. This must be one of the furthest reports from outside the official footprint on here for the Astra 2 satellites.
 
I certainly cant think of anyone reporting the Astra 2's further east than Yemen
 
Haven't you got an old Map you can Update, AS?
 
I think the furthest east before this was Turkey, though can't remember which satellite/beam that was.
 
Tivu was asking Analoguesat if he had a map from some time ago that he could put this report on.
