Hi,

I am moving to Izmir / Turkey and am taking my SKY digibox with me. I have a Pace DS430N sky digibox. My LNB is 0.3 Invacom twin output.

I am planning to buy either a 1.20 or 1.80 Channel Master Offset dish. My question is : would the 1.20 offset dish be enough to get the North Beams of Astra 2A and 2B. And if I decide to take the 1.80 offset dish would I have any chance to get signals from Astra 2D (maybe some Horizontal ones).

thanks for any feedback,
narda

I would imagine that the dish requirements for Izmir would be similar to those on Eastern Cyprus, so for Astra 2D, perhaps a 4.2m dish, I would guess that 2.4m may be the minimum for a reasonable number of channels, although I have seen a report of someone with a 2m dish and they recieve a reasonable amount of channels.

Rolf,

thanks for the feedback. Do you remember where you saw the report with the 2m dish. I thought the Channel Master 1.80 offset was a powerful dish. at least good enough to get all channels on 2A and 2B. Any other dish recommendations ?

Astras 2 A & 2B have 4 different beams (2 each). They have north and south. You may struggle with the south beams.

There no such thing as a "powerful" dish. The Channel Masters have a good reputation as they are well engineered, but at the end of the day nothing is going to make up for lack of surface area to collect the weak microwaves beaming down from space and a well performing lnb

Have a look at _http://www.astra2d.com/turkey.htm there are acouple of reports for Turkey. :)

Thanks to both of you,

though I am still a bit puzzled whether I will be able to get at least all 2A and 2B with a 1.80 offset. Can I not benchmark myself to reports from Athens, which is not really very far from Izmir. Would this be too misleading. In Athens I see that people get all 2A and 2B with just 1.20 offset.

In the absence of firm information you are oging to have to either bite the bullet and buy, or find an installer who has local knowledge of the situation. There must be an expat community round there you could tap into.

If you look at the map, Izmir, Istanbul and Crete are roughly the same distance from the UK. I would have thought, after looking at some reception reports, that a well- installed 1.8m ChannelMaster would get Astra 2A and B, but no 2D at all.
Here's one from the Astra 2D website:
Crete (NO ASTRA 2D)

1.8m Mabo offset dish

I am in Crete, Greece with a 1.8m Mabo offset dish and TUDSB-20 and 30. No 2D at all, or Channel 4. Channel 4 tries to make an appearance early to late afternoon but never quite makes it.
"All 2A South and all 2B transponders received. All other FTA channels and "five" good. The EPG audio is present in the afternoon/evening but otherwise breaks up"

Hi Iam In Fethiye S/w Turkey Most Of The dishes Installed Down Here Are 3 MTR BBC/ITV 95% Of The Time But Would Reconmend 4Mtr The Alignment Is Very Critical And You Drop afew dbs When alignment to 2D Compared to 2A Eurobird Etc Hence You Don't Get The Full Works So you would want to motorise it iam using a 2.4 mtr at this moment Can See Some Of The Itv/BBc Transponders On The Swires Annie But To Weak To Lock Movies Sports Ch4/5 No problem Have a few Drop outs when weather is Very bad
