Hi, I'm in Cairo too and would absolutely LOVE to receive BBC or UK TV - I have a 180 cm motorised dish - is there any way I could get any UK transmissions? Any help would be much appreciated!

BBC Prime (Its a BBC mix with programs like Eastenders) is on a package called Orbit Network on Arabsat 3A at 26E and should be available over there. You will need to contact Orbit.

It is also on 13E (DVB Viaccess 2.3 video encription - but free) not sure what box you need etc but can get it here in Lanzarote on a 90cm dish.

Can anyone help with further info?

Hi Trigger, thanks for the reply. I do get BBC Prime - but that's about it - that and BBC World. I get it on Hotbird without the Orbit subscription ;) . I don't think I can get astra 3D here after reading more about it.

In Israel a 7m dish can get BBC all day as far as i've read. From Crete i know that 4.5-6m dishes get it on some places, on others not, seems to be like in a Casino. So i would guess below 5m you don't have any chance to get BBC there. And for the rest: ITVs and in case of an irish Sky subscription the irish channels i don't dare to imagine what monster dish is needed. Isn't there in Cairo also a 2.40m dish size limit ? I've read about this sometimes.

Hm that's a problem indeed. But as i've seen here right now a 3.6m got 2D in Cairo: http://www.astra2d.co.uk/world.htm
It does not mention so far which and how many frequencies from 2D could be received and for how long.

I was wondering whether the Astra 2D satellite broadcasts the SKY channels as well as BBC, I'm looking at getting both. Has anyone tried the new Sky + recievers (the ones with the hard discs) abroad, how well do/don't they work.

Astra 2D has both BBC and other SKy channels the Sky+ receivers will work abroad - lots of posts here.

The BBC receptions is now more focused on the UK it depends where you live and what size dish you have.

Naahh, not 5m, maybe for Astra 2D although in Larisa Greece you can get BBC with 3m solid but 2A/B all beams a 2.40m should be enough i'd say because in Thessaloniki many people receive them quite well with 1-1.20m except 2B North which needs 1.80-2.40m there.

hi, i heard you are able to pick up bbc 1 and 2 and hallmark and disney
with a 3.8 meter dish.
i install dishes here in naples and how big of a dish woule it take here.
if your in cypress i should be able to receive this with a 3 meter
i heard that some one 100 km south of rome is picking it up that puts them 100
km north from naples italy.

If You Have No Phone Number A E Address Will Do Ok.

Ralph - Ive told you several times you are probaly looking at 3-3.5m possibly more. The bloke 100km away may just be extremely lucky with a slightly stronger side lobe, the reception is very spotty at the extreme fringes of reception, and signal strengths can vary wildly over a few km. It certainly does in south Spain. The only way to find out for certain at your location is to find an installer who can bring out a variety of dishes and try them.

This thraed is now going quiet, and is hopelessly unwieldy so Im closing it. Start some new ones up with appropriate titles - maybe Sky Italy & Spain / Sky eastern Med & Greece etc

I really wish that someone in Greece confirm that 2.40 dish is enough for Astra 2D.
Because in Greece as far as I know they need at least 4 to 5 mt.

It depends a lot where in Greece you are. I made a summary of some reports i knew at that time here. So in some regions you can catch 2D with only 2.40m but it varies which frequencies you will get. There are also places like Athens where you need to upgrade at least to 3.70m so that even a weak signal of the bird appears. If we speak of 100% reception on all frequencies in even in rainy conditions then i fear 5m is the absolute minimum. There are some 6m dishes now in Crete.
