Hallo:

In the event that Astra-2D reception in Berlin needs a dish of > 125cm, the already small number of true BBC fans here in Berlin who are willing to show such determination and pay for those channels, surely will decline. If you consider the arrogant treatment of those paying guests by the BBC, the quite normal reaction would be to terminate the contract asap.

It is odd that print media from the UK are following an opposite plan and try to keep their subscribers happy. Is it the private vs. public stupid? The cool thing is that the BBC proudly will get lots of cheep new non-subscribing western European guests in exchange for their loyal southern and eastern customers whom they rudely forced strait into the bed of the competition of the willing. ;)

I wonder if a diehard BBC-addict needs a dish of >=180cm to get 24-7 reception in Berlin?

As far as i remember in Berlin 1.50m and a Invacom LNB should suffice.

To clarify - a 150cm dish would be the smallest dish size to recommend?

Bavarian Satelite recommend a 1.00-1.40m dish for Berlin - depending on location - signal fades rapidly from west to east.
Satcure seem to think a 1.25 channel master will do the trick.

Anyway Im in need of some advice/help.
I am in Berlin, I have a 90 cm dish, a hama 0,6db lnb and a panasonic 30 digibox.
I have checked the Astra 2d transponders using the manual tuning tool in the hidden menu. The signal strength drops to about 60% and signal quality indicated is 70%. I then get a no satellite signal message. Am I getting a signal or is it just a glitch/ghost/bug in the software?
I also checked the old BBC transponders in the same way and the signal quality drops straight to zero.
Any ideas?

asking around and 2.4m no good on bbc or itv here,anyone else in tenerife got it ok without drop outs

If it did not make the switch, the broadcaster could face problems over programme rights when it begins broadcasting "in the clear" or unencrypted.
But because the signal from the new satellite is much weaker, many viewers have found they can no longer receive the BBC's channels.

I think the management of BBC should be fired, unless the big bosses are the company's owner that makes 2.4mt or 3.5mt satellite dish, because it might cost 2/3 thousand pounds to all expats if they want to see the beeb and forget the "programme rights". Don't they know that tecnology bypass the people's stupidity ?)(-red

So far the only thing I can confirm is that I have the "no satellite" message with a 90 cm dish in West-Berlin (British sector) too

The indicator of the digibox showed something only once. I find the interaction of the manual setup (01/select) with the EPGs automatic tuning difficult to comprehend if not unpredictable.

thor i have been in a bar with a 2.4 and watched bbc//no problems!!//but i also have a friend with 2.4 and he suffers from terrible drop out!

FYI BBC seem to have increased the power on their new 2D transponder sometime late this morning. All BBC channels are being received here in SW France with 60cm dish. A little patience seems to have paid off - at least for now.

When did this happen? How do you know - did you not have it and now you do or is there something techie you have also done?

Like many others I lost BBC 1/2/News 24 etc in May. I could still get regional BBC2 and BBC radio + ITV1. I tried all the add channel suggestions outlined in the threads on this site, but with no luck (except for fleeting BBC1 on one of the other transponders). As our dish is at the top of chimney I could not try other more radical tweeking myself. I decided to wait to see if the BBC/Astra people would boost signal in light of UK problems and this seems to be the case (although no-one else has reported anything yet). Essentially, I had no BBC1 etc this morning and when I tried it at 1.45 pm GMT it was all there.

Sorry I can't give you any magic solution if you haven't got it back in Berlin.

We are thinking around Beziers - and It would be good if we knew it was in the footprint.

Iam just about to go and spend the summer in Lodeve NW of Montpellier in France
I used to get BBC with a 60cm no problems am a little bit worried so am bringing down an 80cm to be safe ,though your report looks like good news

I am to the North East of Toulouse in the Tarn, so just a bit further north than the two of you are planning. I would not presume to recommend a dish size or any other pieces of kit, but have still got the Beeb back (although everytime I zap the channels I half expect the dreaded "No signal" message) with a 60cm dish, Panasonic Sky box and a Universal LND. The best I can suggest is the current (June) edition of TeleSatellite magazine which has as its main feature "La BBC en clair sur Astra 2D". Its publication in France should ensure that all local installers/suppliers are up to speed on the subject and you can hopefully pick the brains of one the ones local to where you are intending to be.

Just had a report from a friend who is in Aigues Mortes, East of Montpelier on his boat and receiving fine on his 60cm dish.
