Hi Mick 1539
Sorry the previous mail was sent by mistake, I've tryed a 2.20 in Roma too with no luck ( Area in Rome Casal Palocco) therefore I just say Goodby BBC and very much likely if SKY Italia has the double sound I subscribe to Sky Italia and cancel SKY UK.
I hope BBC goes backrupt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is anyone who lost BBC able to receive the test transmissions for the regions on 10818 and 10788?

Well funny you ask that.... Northern Italy near Modena
I've finished my upgrade to 1.2m Fraccarro dish MTI LNB and Pace 2200 (old) box and I've managed to get ITV Hallmark and travels on 145/146 rock solid. Still no signal on 101 and 102 but I'm getting both BBC1 regions on 10818 and 10788 (slightly steadier). BBC2 regions on 960's have occational freezing but acceptable.

Will keep an eye on the weather....

We Have tested a 2.2Mtr dish in Rome with no trace of a 2D signal With a Scope. Im Sorry to say but this looks grim. Without spending boatloads of cash the beeb has gone. 2.4 mtr will be tested in the next few weeks if this fails well ???.
One Question to those in the Know. My Grundig GRD (blackbox) does not get ch4 so i had another shipped over Serial numbers a few apart and still no joy. But all other Expats in the area work fine (even on my dish) and my Samsung Box can see the channels.

Here in Cyprus 95per cent of black grundigs(200/300) have trouble with ch4/granada plus/men and motors and a few more, even after fitting the power supply kit.but they seem to receive itv/bbc better, maybe because the latter are low frequency

That ties in with my list (above in previous posting). You'd get better results with a GDS3000 or Pace 2600 or Javelin.

Thats right, but I have heard heard the panasonic 45 might be even better as it is meant to be designed for "weak signal areas in europe".I hope to get one in July.
Has anybody got one and compared with other models?

Yes i have installed a Panasonic 45 for a customer.I dont know the model of the tuner used on this unit but the reception was as good as the earlier Panasonics..

There is only one solution for all expats, forget about BBC 1 & 2, BBC should get a transpoder on Hotbird and at least send the BBC News 24
on clear, there are no films or football match therefore BBC does'nt infring the programme right

But there already exists bbc world on hotbird which is news, and sometimes they have the odd documentary or car program.

Most of the time BBC World and BBC News 24 transmits exactly the same signal - only different logos and BBC World is not 16:9.

It's true but BBC24 has more news from home (UK),

Well most of us have lost the Beeb but a friend of mine has stuck up a 4 meter prime focus dish on top of his bar and is getting the BBC Channels and ITV all clearly. It obviously is still manageable to recieve but is costing on the Dish. is there anyway that i can widen my 2.8m dish to 3.8m and maybe pick up these channels.

The other option we have here in Cyprus is switching over to BBC prime so we can watch our beloved Eastenders. This is easily picked up with a smaller dish but now we need to put our sky boxes away and buy a different reciever.

If I had a big garden me too I would have a 3mt dish unfortunately I can't.plus don't forget the cost for a 4mt dish. For BBC Prime I just received a mail from BBC and it cost 75Pounds plus few other things, pity I din't save the mail, and you must have a motorise dish because BBC P. is on hot bird, or have an other small dish 90cm should be ok and a simple receiver, plus on Hotbird you over 300 programme of course not all in english.Anyhow BBC has been able to upset all expats would have been better to move to hotbird, scramble the signal and ask for the licence.

With all these huge dishes just to get 2D isn't there a problem with signals overloading the LNB from Astra 2A/B?

Yes there is PaulR, that's why only certain receivers with suitably selective tuners can be used

i have a fairly ancient 2.4m channelmaster 4 segment dish which in n. greece is apparently not enough to get bbc although other 2.4 dishes have been successful. the dealer is telling me to get either a new2.7 parabolic to be sure, or alternatively says that a 2m offset, or even possibly a 1.80 would be comparable.... can anyone who is in the know about these things tell me if this is likely.... the last thing i want to do is to bring a 2m offset as its cheaper for shipping, and then find out that it still doesnt do... particularly as there are loads of expats here waiting to find what the min. size for success is, and large dishes in greece have suddently increased in price... what a suprise!

Alternatively does anyone have a supplier in s. europe who might be reasonably price to buy some and get them shipped. thanks

@mayflower:

Hello from Germany. My origin is from Corfu, i sent you also a mail some time ago. Maybe you didn'T receive it. Anyway. Have you gone to Cavos where Sky Digital is received in any corner ? There are at least 2 dishes around 3m, the one on the left side arriving and the other one in Morfeas Hotel on the roof. Maybe they can tell you about the installer or anything else concerning Astra 2D reception. The other dishes must be all 2.40m. I am not informed about the dish-prices lately but would recommend you to have a look in the greek sat-magazine "Digital TV Sat". There are many stores listed all around greece.
By the way, is your dish motorised or fix installed at 28.2°E ?
