Astra 2E: General Discussion (Post-Testing)

Thus cannot understand why some members of the " intended target area " are getting so passionately involved.

Leave that to us on the fringes:-doh

Somebody has to temper the emotions! :D

See how they squirm.......................

Some entertainment while you wait, Cheap Thrills in a way.

Now I expect the betting on who/what the the new fella in the group is.
The area covered is the same as in the picture of the 25:th of november.

Notice the big improvement of the contrast in the picture. I've added a
bigger lens hood to get rid of stray-light from a nearby road that somehow
snuck into the camera. Really high-tech stuff, carefully selected printer
paper with some fancy black paint from the junk-bin. Paper rolled into
a funnel and secured with rubber bands to the lens. (Canon L bands with
a red ring of course.)

"It's grit" (Only comprehensible by Red Dwarf fans ..)

I've seen True Grit (both versions) but can't recognise it?

There was an episode ("Marooned") of Red Dwarf where Holly got the crew all excited about the apparent presence of a Black Hole, causing utter mayhem and the ship to be abandoned, yet in the end the offending image on the screens turned out to be a bit of grit on the scanner-scope.

That's a really great photo waveguide, very impressed. Forget these tracking sites, we'll get our updates from you when it's not cloudy in Linköping :)

Astra 1H?
Astra 1H is probably moving to 31.5 east due to the delayed launch of Astra 5B to 1st qtr 2014

As for Astra 2E the satellite is due to move to 28.2 east before the end of 2013 to full-fill the current contract to allow the release of Astra 1N to 19.2 east,

The current delay of astra 2E move to 28.2 east is probably due to all SES Atra efforts going into the movement of Astra 1H to 31.5 east as new services are due to start there within the next 2 weeks,

Then all the resources will be moved to Astra 2E they used to be able to do this more efficiently in the passed maybe they do not have enough skilled technicians to move 2 satellites at the same time ?

Cheers William for the comprehensive list. I imagine they'll also carry out early life tests on 5B at 43.5E too.

Yes maybe,
2 east is also a testing position for Astra nothing is that predictable in satellite 26.5 west & 34 east have also been use to test satellites

At 0.59w/ day we'll probably be looking at 19 days for 1H to reach 31.5E, if that's where it's destined to be. How many new services /TP's are due to launch at that position in the next few weeks?

Can anyone remember how much 2F moved per day to get to 28.2E? Was it something like 1.6W/day?

Morning all.

What's occurring? Owt or Nowt?

Has the squib been ditched in a bucket?

Had an email from Lyngsat this morning, they were not aware of any changes last night. SES operations usually notify them by email of Satellite changes. The onastra website uses Lyngsat to update it's information. So maybe this was just another Chinese Whisper.

Looks like it. I wasn't holding out for much but no doubt once 2E's moved we'll see some guaranteed action, probably now though not until the New Year.

Ah well.

So, what shall we talk about now?

I think we need a general chat thread. This speculation has been great but totally OT.

Easiest thing to do is to Edit this Topic's Title, but it really won't make any difference: Call a dog by any other name, and all that!

Once we catch a whisper 2E is on the move and verified by our excellent photographer, waveguide, no doubt the conversation will strike up again.

So can we almost safely assume no change over before the Xmas period?

so this whole 2A to 2F thing was wrong...it's almost as if they were trying to take the mickey out of us - to use this very british phrase - something i will quickly forget, once i lose these uk channels ;)
