2E. How could I align to 2E using a 2F transponder?
Yes. Quite a bit. Look at the attached graph.View attachment 62493
If that happens, realign.

Oops, missed the bit about you aligning to 2E! Cheers for chart - does seem well worth pointing at 28.35. Unfortunately, realigning is a bit of a pain so might wait for Eurobird to disappear to the graveyard orbit as this might open space for 2E and 2F to move to their permanent positions. 28.4 or so for all satellites would seem logical to avoid interference from BADR.

However, surely it would be less confusing for the average, non-technical, customer if suppliers/installers used the lesser dimension?
So if you were robbed, and later a policeman was interviewing you, and the policeman asked "how big was he?" would you quote the height or the width of the robber?

Anyway, I for one am not going to damage my business by quoting using a measuring system different from the rest of the market that would make my product seem smaller than everyone else's even though it is identical or maybe bigger.

Didn't know the switch to batteries also comes with reduced power, in this case for Astra 2E.
Do you think reduced power in the earth's shadow is also the rule for other satellites, ore more an exception?

2D used to do this so much that I couldn't receive it.

This is just the start of the satellite disappearing into the Earth's shadow. Continues until April 12th. Longest time in the shadow happens on 21st March where the satellite is on batteries for 70 minutes. According to the graph 2F doesn't seem affected. But we'll see over the coming days as the duration of the event gets longer.

Solar transit effects, on the other hand, are centred on the 5th of March and affect all geostationary satellites.

If a new satellite like 2E already reduces power in the shadow, looks like the batteries are not dimensioned for full power in the first place (to save space & weight).

About the sun transit on th Clarke belt, yes for you on 38ºN it's centered on 5 March, here on 52ºN it's tomorrow 1 March already!

That's a ridiculous comparison. You know very well what the working dimensions of a dish are and what its effective size is.

That's the real reason.

It was a joke. But shows standard for measurement is based on context.

Yes true, and just the dish face, not including the rim. But if one of your neighbours complained about your Fibo 90, the planning office would make you take it down because it is taller than 1m, irrespective of what the "working dimensions" might be. And incidentally the "working dimensions" are only of consequence when comparing offset against PF. If you're comparing offset against offset it makes no difference comparing height or width, as long as you do the same in both cases.

Until I started reading forums with Spanish users it never even occurred to me that someone would measure a dish vertically as the official size, let alone that a UK council would measure it like that for planning purposes.

Agreed. You, I and probably everyone else on this forum are aware that there are two different types of dishes. However, I wager the vast majority of satellite TV viewers are not. In their minds eye, 110cm is bigger than 100cm and therefore it has to be better!!

Anyway, enough said and my apologies for drifting off topic. At least we both agree that a common standard, followed by ALL dish suppliers/installers, would be a very good thing.:)

General planning says a sole antenna is exempt from permission if it is "not more than 100 centimetres in any linear dimension".

I spotted that this morning during homes under the hammer BBC1, thought the dish I put up on Wednesday was moving in the wind, such a relief when it came back:oops:
Dish must be too small if it went offline, here it is just a bump on the signal graph. but no loss of channels.

What makes sense is everyone uses the same standard, and in Spain that means measuring the dish vertically, just like a planning officer in the UK would.
It's time for installers in Spain to come clean on the dish measuring issue. This is all about pretending that a dish is bigger than it really is, to make more money. Dish manufacturers measure their products by the horizontal dimension, which is the international standard. It makes a nonsense of any attempt to make a valid comparison between dishes. Installers also often include the non-receiving rim in the measurement.
It's so common for consumers to be ripped off in this way in Spain, and it ought to stop.

Hi Huevos, I agree with you, you have to set the standard by the country you are in. In Spain, height matters, not girth! As for non recieving rim only a "tonto" would include that in measurement, but I have to agree there are some, hence I started fittting some dishes for my friends and it grew by word of mouth. Also, agree with dxsat, it should stop, but as long as ex-builders, or shop fitters, or lorry drivers, etc, etc, etc, are now sat installlers, then it will continue.

P.S. I was a hairdresser in UK

Huevos, according to SES both 2E and 2F have the same construction, so why does 2E drop off so much at 22:25ish compared to 2F, do not blame you, blame SES

Probably dish area would be a better idea?

Perhaps 2E has not had sufficient solar charge to keep signal equal in "night mode" ie when away from the sun, just a thought.
