Perhaps if this quest for the perfect spot beam has now gone horribly wrong, the (much more sensible) option of controlling viewing rights by encryption and conditional access will be reconsidered by the FTA broadcasters.

And just who is going to pay for the several million redundant Freesat boxes that dont have CA internally?

Not going to happen any time soon.

If the satellite has no transponders below 10.95Ghz, Then if they migrate will Sky and Freesat have to make major updates to EPG so that any transponder moves incorporate these changes of frequency. As that would also need to include an EPG push with any transfer of transponders. Could that not be a DTH issue ??? The cost to Sky and Freesat for multiple mods to the EPG could be significant.

If the tech guys at SES are reading this, they must be :-peepee themselves laughing at the ridiculous speculation in this thread.

Folks,

Think about, Ses have to co-ordinate 2 EPG updates ( with Frequency changes) with a switch from 1N to 2F ; now not changing frequency would be trivial, but changing frequency will cause an outage unless the "receiver" gets the updated info and can action it during the switch-over period.

For sure....Here's a new theory...Maybe 2F's been hijacked by aliens and they've lost control of it at Betzdorf :)

Hope they have some panel beating gear with them as they can knock out a wider beam on the 2F spot dish..
Hey,that's maybe why the test signal has been coming and going !!!

No frequency changes are expected - as far as we know its a straight swap from one bird to another.

The bloody thing is working fine - nice strong signals all over the UK as far as we are aware. And much much stronger signals than the many of the other frequencies reported by the few folks in the UK who have contributed. There was always going to be spillover into the near continent - the official maps SES have produced for the UK beam are a work of careful fiction as I showed a couple of days ago, the 60cm spillover goes well into France, and that is the extent of the footprint produced.

But if no frequencies below 10.95 Ghz then 1N has to remain at 28.2E. As I put in an earlier post DTH problem , no frequencies below 10.95 Ghz

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Strange no reception reports since posting my theory 2 hours ago!!!

Some other forums have also thought that their reception reports saved the need to go out in the field to gather info as we do that very well even reporting dish size, stb, lnb and location maps.

They are p1ssing themselves with joy at the work they save!

Apart from the DTH platform issue TP,s under 10950

Signal quality is the same here in Buckinghamshire as it was last week for those two transponders. Doesn't look like they have moved to me.

they should thank us... we are doing much of the work for them by compiling accurate up-to-the-minute Europe-wide reception reports that don't cost them a penny. I know they have their own measuring posts dotted across Europe on the ground, but we are providing them with quite a bit of detail as to how well reception is working in practice on the end user's satellite receiver.

So dear SES, would it be too much to ask in return for these favours if you could nudge the UK spot beam eastward by about 100 km? that would be great... ;)

Now the ephemeris and center-of-box data of Astra 2F is available at SES:
_http://www.ses.com/4405170/tool/ephemeris?download=y&sat=ASTRA-2F
_http://www.ses.com/4405429/tool/centerofbox?download=y&sat=Astra-2F

Nothing special about Astra 2F, nominal position 28.2 East and normal inclination of about 0.05 degrees.
