are the dishs not free from sky in the first place ?? turning into ´´local hero´´ this thread

No, the equipment/dish/box is provided free on a subsidised basis IF you agree to plug the box into the phone line (for 12 month) and enter into an interactive discount contract with them, other wise you pay for your kit and the install (or that is how it used to work anyway)

@kota: Whilst you may well be right, we would prefer our Members not to flame other Forums and their Members. Experience shows that does nobody any good.

I suspect it will be a lot cheaper for SES to pay to upgrade every satellite dish in the Shetlands (only around 23,000 people live there) than pay penalty clauses to their 19.2E customers when they fail to meet their contractual obligations for 2013 at that orbital position due to non-delivery of Astra 1N.

That might not be possible for everyone due to planning restrictions over dish sizes.

Also, I would have thought there were contractual obligations between SES and the FTA broadcasters over a minimum level of signal coverage.

In the main, Planning Policy shouldn't be a problem as up to 1m is allowed except in special cases like Conservation Areas etc.

If they need a 1m in Shetland, then we really are in trouble!

It's worth keeping an eye out on the official Sky Forums over signal loss and poor coverage when the mass channel swap on the 2F UK beam does occur.

Perhaps if this quest for the perfect spot beam has now gone horribly wrong, the (much more sensible) option of controlling viewing rights by encryption and conditional access will be reconsidered by the FTA broadcasters.

By "much more sensible", one might also mean "easier to overcome"!

How could they implement this on freesat though, the main point of it is free to air viewing and the freesat boxes (or most of them) wont be able to handle encryption

It would cost the beeb too much and we`d end up loosing HD content as a cost comprimise

Technomate 6902HD. 80cm on 19.2. Offset lnb for Hotbird
and Astra 28.2
My Location

Don't know if this helps. I am 150km north of Edinburgh and 340km south of Shetland.
I have an 80cm dish lined up on Astra 1 and an offset lnb for Astra 2.....don't know what size of dish that would be when looking at Astra 2.

1N is much stronger than 2A and B. However there is next to no difference between 1N AND 2F
My Technomate gives the same readings for both. Signal quality 85/86

supermagagnosc in Grasse (about 60km east of me) has been reporting better results with a 90cm dish - but I haven't seen any reports fro him in the past couple of days.

It'll all come out in the wash no doubt.

Nothing in new to report, 11023 still there, no appreciable differences. At weekend clear blue skies, since then cloud, heavy cloud and rain so not able to make "like for like" comparisons.

Out of interest consensus seems to be transfer to 2F is delayed, what / where is the basis for the transfer occurring 23/26th is it fact from SES or assumption from speculation?

It was from SES, but we can't attribute it Officially here. We do have Members who can obtain (relatively scant!) info, but of course that's as far as it goes.

HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT?
