Where did they find this clown? Woborny, is it someone we know?
He appears fairly often on the radio, from the days the radio station use to be called REM FM. He works for a satellite and communications company in Estepona. I forget the name. They did a very efficient instalation for me about 15 years ago.

Just listened to the interview myself - OMG - someone earlier said Dick Head - I think Mr R Sole may be as apt !!! No proper reference to Freesat - seems to think we all use Sky! But what a load of absolute twaddle !!...... I hope people realise just how bad this "information" really is?

Yes, this Guy uses the word Sky to mean any UK satellite TV broadcasts. And TBH I don't know why they would invite him on the radio on a regular basis. Apart from not being credible he's just too wooden.

Reception report from Pechón, Cantabria, North Spain. Triax TD88, Pace 2200 / Televes 7118, Unbranded dual LNB.

Further to my submission of 8 December, reception has worsened considerably and I can now barely receive Channel 5 etc. Signal is present in the morning with break up.

The other contributors for Santander area need to re-confirm their earlier observations.

I'm reaching the conclusion that the best solution might be via internet services using people like toowaydirect.com.
I am out of home until Friday, I will try to send an updated report during the weekend.

Cheers.

I would be delighted to, especially if they were positive!!

My telecommunications guy said he was picking up 0% signal from his house but I cannot give you anymore information than that, and I realise that is not sufficient for you!! . I assume when he says 0% signal he means with the equipment he has, he does not mean that no signal will be possible to detect at all, without regard to the size of the dish?

On the good side I have been told I can put a bigger dish up where I have the current one, by if necessary, installing a pole for it. I would appreciate opinions as to which dish (1,8 and bigger) and which LNB etc etc will offer the highest quality reception (that is my biggest concern really). My current set-up is only 3 years old!!

Would a signal amplifier be a good idea?

I have just thought that if I buy a big dish and it doesn´t work (because of lack of signal) would the supplier take it back? Stupid question maybe??????

THANKS!!!

Just seen this quote from the BBC blog -

"readers will recall that in February 2012, SES retired Astra 2D and BBC services moved to a new temporary home on Astra 1N. Astra 1N is due to take up its permanent position in 2013 (19°East), so the BBC’s services will move to their new permanent home on Astra 2E (28.2°East) when that becomes operational. SES expects Astra 2E to launch in Q2 2013, so we currently expect to transition BBC services to it during summer 2013."

@Jonty: Amplifiers amplify Noise as well as Signal, so are used to overcome losses on long cable runs. They are no substitute for a bigger Dish.

Hi ... I am a newby based in Javea on the Costa Blanca

2F transponders all good here by the way on my 1.9.

Have also read BBC blog - Putting 2&2 together could it be that the BBC have sussed that Astra have problems with 2F transponders and said... No thanks, we will wait for 2E. But then I read that latest Proton from Baikonor launch was less than successful. 2E is due for a Proton launch!

Problems problems problems for Astra SES !

And what problems would those be then?? The 2F UK spotbeam is behaving much as expected - its tighter than 2D by quite a margin, especially on the ne/sw axis

There will always be some overspill on a spotbeam - thats just the way these things go.

My thoughts are wrt transpoders sub 10.950 where I believe BBC normally reside.

If SES have problems sub 10.950 they may have offered BBC a transponder shift............. BBC may have said "thanks but no thanks, if half is up the spout can we trust the rest ???? we will wait for 2E."

I am not as "techi" as some of you guys, just bouncing an idea.

BTW - Top forum everyone.... I have lurked for a few weeks and found it mega informative!

Look theres nothing wrong with 2F.

If there was the slightest indication she was wonky the delivery would have been refused during testing - just like Eutelsat declined W2M when it was discovered there was a battery charging problem,

Theres credible but unconfirmed info that 2F just cant transmit below 10950MHz

If 2F is so hunky dunky why do the BBC want to wait for 2E...........thus thwarting Astra's move of 1N to 19E in the process !

I smell a rat!
