Ah, that's not a new Directive (Goes back to 2001), but a Judgement based upon testing that Directive.
Thanks for clarifying that but its strange that FilmOn has suddenly dropped all its European TV live content at just the time this is being aired! Somthing must have made them pull the plug so quickly - it was ok and on at 3pm yesterday but all gone by 6pm!!!

Yup. As I said in my previous Post, the semantics don't alter the significance of the issue - changes will be afoot. And seemingly are.

can you provide me with more details of this please

Sure thing! The stock firmware on your ADSL/cable router probably doesn't support OpenVPN connections, so first step is to check on http://www.dd-wrt.com/site/support/router-database to see if your router is supported. If it is, download the Linux DD-WRT firmware and flash your router (always remember to get a copy of your current firmware and backup your settings).

Once that is done, head over to https://www.astrill.com/knowledge-base/53/OpenVPN---How-to-install-Astrill-OpenVPN-on-DD-WRT-routers-(via-Web-install).html and install OpenVPN. Then pay for a 3-month subscription and enter your details in OpenVPN. Select an Astrill server in the UK and click connection and voila, all devices connected to your network terminate in the UK.

There are no real costs to this setup .. the firmware is free, the Astrill subscription is peanuts. The only spend you may have to make is if your router isn't supported by WW-DRT. If you need further help, just let me know. We've been using it a while now on a 30MB cable connection -- all on-demand content works perfectly.

Huevos - what do you mean by a "linux receiver" ? - i.e. what kit do I need to be able to do this in Spain?
One that has a Broadcom processor and runs E2. I think the cheapest single tuner receivers at the minute are the MaxDigital XP1000 (140GBP, check the forum sponsor) and the TM-Single. The sky is the limit though, going from 1 to 8 tuners.

With the latest software you have a self-updating channel list (channel numbers correspond with Sky or Freesat) and a proper 7 day EPG. Add a hard drive or interface with a NAS and you've got a fully fledged recording receiver. And anything recorded can be accessed by any device on your network (PC, laptop, smart phone, tablet, STB, etc).

Great info. Thank you, but what I find amazing is the 30 MB cable connection. In southern Spain?

For those on a tight budget the myiplayer desktop player(register at forum and free download) is still working on most channels(from filmon ) but not as stable as filmon but is free and still there at the moment.
After a thorough look only bbc1+2 itv c4 c5, better than nought I suppose

Only channels 1 - 5 though. Maybe they haven't sorted out the geo restrictions yet.

Are you running through it at the moment? I ran your IP through four IP searchers: three said Valencia, one said Madrid but all agreed that it was Spain.

The Astrill UK server my system is connected to doesn't allow torrents, so the desktop I was sat at is on an excluded list :)

BTW, if you are using a Linux receiver you don't need Expat Shield or a VPN to receive iplayer, just a regular broadband internet connection.
Newbie to the forum, but I fancy myself as a bit of an internet techie.

I don't understand why having a linux receiver would allow you to access content that is being restricted by Ip address like Iplayer? Surely your IP address is still going to be outside of the UK?

Thanks for any info you can supply to enlighten me

I don't either but if you have access to service that provides IP masking or redirecting you can probably point directly to it rather than using an extra router in the house.

I'm probably a bit late for the reception report info to be much use, but here goes anyway.

1.4m dish in Obidos, Portugal, quad LNB, FoxSat HD and two very old pace boxes. Good reception on everything FTA listed on the Wikipedia List of free-to-air channels at 28°E page except of course the channel 5 and 4 seven stuff that was moved to 2F (all 2F stuff is no longer received as far as I can tell).

Receiving Sky News on both 501 and 202 fine since it recently turned up on the Foxsat but that's logical if it's still on 1N. In fact the only reception problems are when we have heavy rain.

Since losing channel 5 and finding 202 on the foxsat, the dish was damaged with a big dent in the top. (recent bad weather with record sustained high winds threw concrete blocks at it). After some tweaking by my friendly local Sat Man there is now no noticeable reception difference from the pre-storm undamaged dish.

I'm going to need to buy some new kit anyway to replace the 15 year old pace boxes at some point and if we lose the BBC I am considering a Technomate 5402 and then pointing the dish at 27.5w - as apart from the BBC TV and radio, there is not much worth watching or listening to.

Ok we have a new map to populate - lets see what the new beam is looking like.

To begin with we will start with Sky News SD on Sky EPG 501, Freesat epg 202 & frequency 12207V 27500 2/3

Cartoonito or Fox SD Sky UK epgs 619 & 188 (12110H 27500 2/3)

As before we want positive & negative reports, dish sizes receiver &and lnb info

Your location is vital for this - the nearest town to you

An idea of the reception would be very useful - for example

no problems, good signal 24/7
no signal since the move
poor in the evening good in the morning

If you've got questions about the plugin you could either ask on the ViX forum (the ViX team wrote the OnDemand plugin) or have a look at the open source code on GitHub.

Thanks for your help.

I'll have to check if either of the boxes (Dr.HD or Technomate 5402 hd) which based on the 27.5w thread I'm now considering buying use the plugin you are referring to.

I Googled and Wikipedia searched both Vix and GitHub and I'm a little wiser, but not a lot. It's a bit early days for a newbie like me to have technical questions about this plugin. I also googled "Vix forum" and it seems to be on the world-of-satellite site and that looks like a lot more study before I'll know where to post any questions.

If the plug in works, I don't actually need to know how or why it works, it was just curiosity which provoked the question, and I thought you might know how it does what it does.

I guess it must either connect via a proxy, or there is some other way to deceive the BBC Iplayer.

Those boxes are not Linux based so you can't install these kind of plugins on them.
