Astra 2F Testing Reception Reports

Which part of my post do you think is a joke and why?

I take it from your post you think there is no chance of overspill from the West African beam and the UK.

How can you say this with such certainty?
Because the distances envolved are enormous. Even all the way down here, almost 2000 kilometres south of the UK, using a 1.8 metre dish the West Africa beam is below the noise floor on the spectrum, i.e. completely invisible. And, also southern UK is 5.9º off axis. By comparison the Costa Blanca is only 1.5º off axis of the UK beam.
All they need do is reuse the frequencies for BBC and ITV to cause major disruption.

Are you saying they can't do this?
No, I'm saying they won't. UK and PE are never going to be in competition so that just leaves UK v ME, and UK v WA. As stated above WA can't be seen from southern Europe and ME is so far to the south east that the only people that will be affected are those that are already well out of the range of the UK spot (unless they are using a dish in the 5 metre range).

huevos your making your guess based on old equipment the only comparable tihng is 1N until its operationally at 28e no one knows for sure but i dnt get why you think because of how it is jus tnow on older birders and bird not designed for 28e but was rush job to provide extra capicty in the short term how oyu can compare that to a new bird to which we have no idea about how the spot works i dnt know

you say they wont use PE with UK spot because of interference whats to say thata channel comes to ses and says we want eurpeon broadcast but to cut uk out? but i see your point it is doubtful they will use PE and UK spot in frequency reuse but if they use UK and ME or UK and AF together people who where on fringe before might find it even hard wto get the uk spot and i think that is what there testing jsut now two spots with rfrequency reuse hence the weird reading from solly who one end of the earth adn the toher poster in poland area

Thanks for clarifying that.

I hadn't realised there was an existing WA beam and that it was down in the noise in Spain.

So is it fair to say it doesn't look like reuse of frequencies for UK and WA is likely to cause any problems in main land Spain?

And the Canary Islands might have a problem if they reuse the same frequencies as BBC and ITV?

By ther way wat is PE?

Terry

what in TENERIFE ??

Yes, it should be fine where you are. The dish wouldn't need to be anywhere near as big. It's only the bbc, itv, ch4 channels available but it helps a lot if you can't receive them from 28.2 in the first place.

PE = Pan European beam.

The Intelsat beam on 27.5°W is a spot beam too by the way, a normal focused reflector ( like they all used to be in the 80s and 90s). The PE idea was actually a new one brought up by Astra in 1988 with 1A.
Spotbeams are nothing new, they always have been used, but not to limit reception, but to focus lower TWTA output for smaller dishes.

There's plenty out there of people successfully being able to watch the bbc etc. channels using this method as they're way out of the 28.2 footprint and would probably need something daft like a 5m dish.

Mr Google is our friend and judging by it the relatively cheap Technomates do a good job as well.
I wont carry on as posting in the wrong section.

Here's a link to a discussion on this forum but there's some others out there which are 100% worth a read:

The Nigeria beam on 2B - its been in use for years.

Now, the new west Africa beams will stretch much further north west, stretching way up the west bulge of Africa - quite what effects that will have in the Canaries is anyones guess.

they will NEVER use same freq on UK and PE or WA and PE .... it can only be UK AND WA .......i dont know why you cant just accept that logic ??

FOR SALE LOTS AND LOTS OF 3M DISH ,,,buying must pay transport :-crying

why because none of us know ses plan our potential new customers base we dnt know until it live and everything is tranfered across to it

TTV is right - the UK beam cant frequency share with the Pan European under any circumstances as the beams would interfere with each other in the UK & much of NW Europe.

Frequency reuse is only possible between the spotbeams

Im not saying UK and PE beam i am meaning ME and WA beam with PE but we will all have to wait and see

Well we are getting well off topic, so I suggest we let the thread return to the reports on current tests :)

Again a high power analogue carrier on 11032H, at the same time those two strong signals on 12.402 and 12.460 have been replaced by wider digital carriers - broadcast very weakly though.

i got uk beam strong now on 2f
i never see 10964h so stronger
