I guess I must be missing something because, whilst this thread is titled "Astra 2G: Testing at 43.5°E", www.satellite-calculations.com/Satellite/Catalog/catalogID.php?40364 currently shows 2G at longitude 45.6°E.
Can someone please explain? Thanks.

The tracking sites are not live tracking - its just an extrapolation taken from the previous movement

The apparent easterly drift will cease when the tle (Two Line Elements - used for tracking programmes) is updated.

In-orbit tracking only works properly on stuff that is not manoeuvred. As soon as those thrusters are fired the system breaks down.

It is surprise for me, but I have strong carriers inRussia too :)
All previous Astra tests at 43.5°e were very weak here.
2G has a wider European beam which will reach further east so it makes sense you are getting a stronger signal at the moment.

Can we draw any conclusions as to whether the lower 11.2 - 11.7GHz frequencies are potentially spot or widebeam? During the 2E & F testing phase, some in Germany were getting what we're thought to be the spot TP's much stronger.

I'd still like to know if each TP is spot/wide switchable, I'm thinking by design that the lower 10.7 - 11.7GHz ones possibly are, fixed. I've not seen a PE wide TP from 2E or 2F in the C or D bands which leads to this suspicion.

Now a strong carrier on 10832 H, and a wideband peak around 10714 H.

I've been seeing a slight peak on 10832 H already for several days during the travel to 43.5°E !
Probably an "open" transponder without uplink.

ps_It looks like they are doing tests on another satellite at the same time, because right now it's not a signal on this carrier!?

Perhaps, because after scanning the signal disappeared.Around this time started a new transponder at 12655 V, which is on Astra 1F,but also this transponder left.So far this transponder doesn't really exist. There are tests on Astra 1F?

None atm last time I checked there was still 3 active transponders on 1F http://www.flysat.com/astra1f.php

11225 H/V and 11265 H tell me a lot! Tries to mimic the current 28A transponders (72 MHz split in two).

A scheme to fit 72 transponders (excluding the 10 * 36 MHz Africa transponders) could be:
10.7...11.2: 32 * 26 MHz
11.2...11.29: 4 * 36 MHz
11.45...11.7: 12 * 33 MHz
11.7...12.19: 24 * 33 MHz

Only trouble are 11616 H and 11692 V, especially 11692 V can't be center frequency.

It cant be a coincidence that most of the tp's being lit up so far are in the the remaining Eutelsat 28A band.....

SES must have designed 2G knowing (or being very confident) that Eutelsat would sublet transponder space.

Or at least thought it would be good backup if it hadn't gone their way?

@hvdh,what do you think? There are tests on Astra 1F?Both carriers left at the same time also.

Funny how our posts of over a year ago are still valid, timo_w2s!
https://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/threads/astra-2g-pre-testing-phase.163694/page-4#post-917353
So 2E/2F/2G each having 4 36 MHz transponders in band A, and only 28A as a backup.
Hopefully later on this year we'll know better what is going to happen!

I wonder if the original spec for the 2E/2F/2G satellites was to have a some backup in in band A case Eutelsat couldn't or didn't want to provide any backup themselves but now that Eutelsat have given up operating a satellite at 28.5E they'll just use it themselves and rent some back to Eutelsat with 28A sitting dormant as backup for a few years (Eutelsat documents suggest 28A is still good for a few more years).
