Astra 2G: Testing at 43.5°E

It's looking more like the Eutelsat standard rather then the SES standard used at other positions, like Astra 1.

The difference here is that rather than splitting one 72MHz wide transponder into two virtual transponders as used on Eutelsat 28A, Astra 2G looks like it'll use two real 36MHz wide transponders. At least I think that's what we are assuming, anyway. Other Astra satellites usually use 26MHz wide transponders in that band.

I guess 36 MHz is more efficient for digital compression than 26MHz.

The virtual transponders on 28A - are they the ones with same frequency but different polarity?

If you look at the transponder names here http://www.lyngsat.com/Eutelsat-28A.html you can see which ones are split. It's just the ones between 11.2 and 11.45GHz on the super beam.

eg. 11224V is C2L and 11260V is C2U. So the real transponder is C2 and it's split into lower and upper virtual transponders.

You're right,@William.Must be careful not to confuse the signal from one satellite to another.Even if I have adjusted my antenna as well as possible in the direction of the satellite,the signal from nearby satellites
is active,especially from Turksat.We are lucky that the signal is strong on Astra 2G.
Here's what it looks like on the spectrum signal from Turksat or Intelsat 12 at 43.5 E.

I switched dishes yesterday for my tests with the TM5502HD to the 104cm Gibertini as it is more directional than the 88cm mesh dish so the bleed over from 42 east & 45 east is now minimal @ 43.5 east.
I have a new Lnb in transit Inverto 40 mm Single HGLN Ultra 0.2 LNB & will test it against the Inverto Black Ultra 0.2 later today.

The Lnb is the same as the IBU just the packaging says HGLN but the Lnb in the box says IBU 0.2. Signal Quality exactly the same
