My Satellite Setup
Denson reciever
My Location
Malaga, Spain
Hi,

I have recently moved to Malaga in Spain. The apprtment I am renting has a Denson reciever. In the menu I can chose from Hotbird, Astra, Astra3A and Astra2A. The only channels I can view are on the Astra channel. The english channels are on Astra2A, I can see the channel list but when I select a channel nothing appears. In the signal bar it shows 100%? I thought Astra2A was a freeview service, so how come I cannot view any channels?

There is a card in the reciever "Extra kaart" from Canal Digital. Does this mean I have to get another card?

Please help.

Many thanks

Tyron

First, welcome to the forum. Now the bad news.

The receiver has lists of different satellites internally so that when it is connected to a dish pointing the right direction it will be able to find the channels on those satellites. The key is "pointing in the right direction". From your dexcription the dish on your apartment is pointing to Astra 1 at 19E. Astra 2A is at 28E with the rest of the the fleet and unless the dish can be moved you're stuck with what is on Astra 1. If it's a communal dish then there's no chance of that happening!

Finally, terminology. Freeview is the terrestrial service that you get through the normal TV aerial in the UK. What you really meant was Freesat but I'm sure it was just a slip of the fingers!

Afterthought

If it is your own dish and can be moved then you need to know what size it is as you need a fairly large dish (about 1.3m) to access the decent Freesat channels such as the BBC, ITV and C4.

Oh dear. It is a communal dish. So no British tv got me lol

Better start learning spanish quickly I guess:-ohcrap

Thanks for the speedy reply

If your after channels on Astra2's South beam, then a smaller dish would most probably get you those; assuming you have permission to erect a dish.
