Hello,

I used to be able to receive free French Channels, first via Telecom 2B then Atlantic Bird 3. Earlier this year, I suddenly lost reception. I put it on the account of the LNB cap which was cracked. Then just before the summer, channels reappeared. Because reception was bad, I went outside to try and adjust the LNB slightly and it all disappeared again. I was then using an ALba Satellite Receiver (rec 555). Since then nothing has happened.

I have just come back from France with a Metronic Terbox which should allow me to pick up the TNT (French Freeview equivalent) and a brand new universal LNB. We connected everything but without any success: the box can't pick any TV channel at all. I then reconnected my old ALba Satellite Receiver for a test and it was the same there: nothing.

Does anyone has any idea what the problem might be? The dish has not moved at all for years. It has a patch where the paint has gone off though. Could this be the issue?

Could be any one of multiple reasons.

For starters:

The dish may have moved
The lnb may be faulty
The cable may be kinked or damaged
The cable may be full of water.
The electrical connections at the f-connectors may have corroded

Don't rely on your assumption that the Dish hasn't moved - It may well have, as it only takes a small displacement sideways or down (they don't generally fall "up"!) to wreck alignment.

The other thing could be degraded cabling - physical damage or water ingress.

Before taking the cable down and replacing it just run a temporary length from the dish to the receiver.

(we have tried cutting off a foot or so of the cable from the LNB side in case only the end was damaged and reconnected but no result)

Well before going to the trouble of running even a rabbit run of cable, try gently flexing the LNB arm left then right then up then down to see if the signal improves ..................... If so, you need to concentrate on the dish.

If not, run that cable!
