Posting this on behalf of a member of a motorhome forum of which I am also a member, he's had no response on there so thought I'd try on here for him:-

I have an interest in viewing the Austrian channels ORF and Servus TV that are broadcast on Astra 1.

Although supposedly free to air they are encrypted with cryptoworks irdeto2 so my TV needs a relevant common interface card to decode them. I can't seem to find a source of such a card or any idea of its cost.

They may only be available in Austria to prevent neighbouring countries watching the Austrian Channels.

Does anyone have any relevant knowledge.

PS. I know I can stream their internet service via a vpn but that not the solution I would prefer.

ORF requires a card usually only available to Austrians. Appear to be available on German eBay for between €200-€300 with up to 5 years activation. Getting one may be an issue thanks to the 'B' word. Servus Germany is FTA.

Thanks very much - message passed on

Be aware cards are available cheaper but they won't have been activated. Be very careful with translations. A CAM will also be needed.

Thanks for the replies, it transpires that he wants to watch the F1 coverage on these channels, I would imagine a Now TV day pass is the best solution for him.

I believe in the past Now TV have offered F1 season passes that worked out at around £9 per race.

RTL and Servus TV are both fta on 19e Astra 1

RTL has every F1 race, Servus has every Moto GP race. Both are free

ORF2E 12692 H 22000 5/6 is also free but sometimes it is closed (during transmissions they are only for Austria Licensed [Film they have only a right to send into Austria Area]). ORF1HD 11302H20000 2/3 CAID 0D98 is coded. For the cost of the Channel - you must pay every 2months €52,66 that mean per month € 26,33 but you must have hear inside Austria a resident. External living Persons can receive it over the webpage www.orf.at but not all programmes are available here on this web-site.

My guess is the best bet for fta F1 next season is probably going to be one of the TurkmenAlem channels on 52E I very much doubt the fta version of Servus will be carrying it, and we know RTL have dropped the coverage.

Austrian open program is here oe24HD 11273H22000 2/3

@Jimmy H
I would like to send you a information about the ORF here in Austria but this is impossible so my PM(private message) is not allowed for me here in this forum - so the forum board told me that. Also someone asking me for what I should write you a private message.

As you're now a 'member' rather than a 'new member' I think PMs (conversations) should now work.

Oh thank you for that information

Hi Jimmy H! I am from Austria and can organize a viewing card for you. Normaly they work 5 years from activation. Now due the Virus the running time is expand to 5,5 years.
