CJ ,

OK, the list for spare "Zinnies" currently stands as below:

Channel Hopper = 2
Captain Jack = 1
moonbase = 2

Please note that there will be additional internal UK postage to be added to the finalised USA purchase price. I will need to post them out to buyers once they have arrived. Collection is OK for anyone if they prefer.

I'm pretty sure i don't need any more, iv'e got two already. I fancy going the new Norsat 3600-4800 GHz Cband lnb route at the moment to see how it fares against a dedicated 4500-4800 Cband lnb

Might be interested in one as well, my AVcomm package is somewhere over Pakistan at the moment on its way home so if the weather is OK tomorrow I'll get it on a dish and test it. Has anyone compared one to a Titanium or ESX241, not using the barrel just hooked up with a scalar?

aceb,

I did a very quick test without the barrel on 10E just with a scalar and a dielectic plate. On one frequency the Zinwell was best, on another the Tit was better but it was really cold outside and I did not do much testing. Also, I did not spend a lot of time adjusting focal length and polarity. Ideally, I would have liked to test them both on 46E linear over a few frequencies to get a better idea. Plus, I was not using a large dish so I had limited C Band scope. It was a very incomplete and limited test, not conclusive.

There are several Zinnie and Tit men in this topic, perhaps one of them can add more info on a comparison?

Hi aceb .
i,v not tested a lot due to the cold and wet winter weather .. but i,m seeing quite different results on different C.M. dishes ... i recently tried / compared -- Titanium ESX241, - BSC421 and Zinwell ,
(no AVcom barrel just conical scalar) in the centre position on the 2. 4 channel master offset ... without its subrefelector ...
on (linear) Paksat 38 east which is pretty weak up here in the n west and only a hand full of transponders can be received using that dish.

BSC421 ... gave best results
ESX241 and Titanium .. equal in second place
Zinwell .. not quite as good as the above

A test/ comparison on the 1.8 channel master offset at (linear) 58 west using just Ln.b. and cone scalar ... (the l.n.b sits 5 - 6 degres off centre) .... is quite different and certainly favors the Zinwell.

Zinwell .. best result by almost 1 db on some weak transponders (well pleased with this result)
BSC421 .. second place
ESX241 and Titanium .. a fraction less than the one above

I never had chance to try a Zinwell or AV com barrel on the Prodelin 3 metre ...
but overall the BSC421 was always the top performer on that dish .. linear or circular ...

Looking forward to warmer weather to test all l.n.b,s on both dishes using the AV com :)

make what you will of the above results o_O ... probably be different on your dishes l.o.l.

cheers ....

Thanks Nelson, like all things C-Band there never seems to be a single overall winner.

My Christmas present has arrived from Oz but unfortunately the LNB was DOA, I suspected there could be a problem as it rattled when I picked it up! Anyway, a quick test showed it wasn't working so opened it up to find the puck was lose inside the can. I've stuck it back on to the ceramic base with a couple of small spots of sealant and a quick test after 30 minutes curing showed it to be producing peaks within Crazyscan. I'll leave it overnight and try another test tomorrow and check frequency accuracy.

Does DRO alignment just effect frequency adjustment or will have a knock on effect to sensitivity?

@moonbase Count me in for another Zinwell!

Ok ..before I miss this opportunity ..
How much in total for one ..considering there will internal postage to pay as well ..
is the saving significant ?
I ask only because I am considering one after playing with a borrowed zinny from Nelson..
Not an urgent purchase but more of a curiosity for me..

VS,

When I calculated the order for 5 units the cost was approx £33 each, including import charges, delivered to the UK. Plus, there will be UK internal postage on top. The figure of £33 delivered to the UK is approximate and depends on what exchange rate I get when I place the order. The internal UK postage cost depends on what service the person wishes to have, ie, insured, non insured, tracking, no tracking etc.

Looking at the eBay listing, a single purchase costs approx £37.25p delivered to the UK, excluding import charges.

Out of curiosity I took a look at the ebay link ...and it does state NO additional import charges ?
so I guess it is roughly the same as the £33 + internal postage in the UK ..
or am I missing something ?

VS,

The price I calculated at £33 was the price including import duty. The seller advised me to create an order to get an idea of the import duty amount that is payable via the global shipping program as you only get to see that amount when finalising the order. If you check the picture of the eBay listing that you posted you can see it states import duty to be confirmed at checkout.

After I created the order and got the price including inport duty, I then cancelled the order as advised by the seller. That was how I was able to provide the quote of £33 including import duty but excluding local UK postage to end users. I created the sample order for 5 units, as it stands there are now 6 units to be ordered so there might be a further marginal reduction on the price of £33.

I hope the explanation above is clear to follow?
