BADR 26 E reception

Hi all,

first post here. I have been having a bit of bother receiving Badr 4 with a gradual loss of various transponders. I used to be able to receive as many as 14 plus the Kuwaiti channels on the FSS beam. Im a bit stumped as the remaining transponders have the same signal level as previous and Im pretty sure the dish (1.1m) which is ground mounted hasnt moved.

I know that selectivity on cheap boxes isnt great so Im wondering if I am losing the tp's as a result of interference from nearby sats particularly Astra 2. In saying that I am also pulling in some tps from as far away as 23 east when I scan on my Argus Piccollo.

So how do I get the transponders back? Are there any boxes which are much more selective or do I need a larger dish with tighter beamwidth.

Any help or suggestions would be very gratefully received.
 
A larger dish would certainly help, (narrower bandwidth acceptance angle) and possibly a *less* sensitive lnb??

No idea how much bigger you would have to go though.
 
Iam able to recieve 275 tv and radio channels off badr 4 etc on my 1.1 triax dish with a inverto black ultra lnb and a Vu+duo,I see you based in Northern Ireland Iam in South Devon perhaps thats the reason why i get so many more channels or could there be another reason.
 
Can you actually watch TV channels from 23.5E. If that is so, I would suspect that your dish needs a minor tweak, as I'm unable to do that with my TD110 and don't get any 23.5 channels when aligned to 26E.

Also I would recommend the Black Ultra if you have not already got one, it is the best LNB for the TD110 (if that is what you have), still worth a try with it either way.
 
With a 1M dish I can pick up 18 Badr 4 TPs in the BSS range plus the Kuwaiti TP and a few feeds in the FSS range. As Robbo says something needs tweaked if you are picking up 23.5E in a scan. Nudge the dish slightly to the East and rescan. Just make sure you don't go too far East or you'll hit interference from 28.2E

Hi Robbo,

think I will have another look at the dish tomorrow, although I dont think wind has moved it. However when I was setting it up the top of the arc was set probably just west of 5W so maybe it needs a slight tweak. Regarding the black ultra LNB - why is it good on a TD110? is it because the longish neck puts it closer to the dish face?

its a very good lnb for pretty much any dish as i've got one on a cm 1.2 with good results.
 
Yes I believe so regarding the ultra long neck, but also found that the Lnb works better than others on other dishes too, it also ( for me anyway) works particularly well for the channels I watch from badr.

also for one reason or another I have had about 3 different singles and 2 different twin versions of the ultra all performing as well as eachother, so not just luck.
 
Yes, I fitted a Black Ultra twin on my SMW dish. Had to improvise by using a pipe clip and metal sleeve threaded to take a couple of set screws, as the original LNB holder is for C120 LNB's.

Now has a quad. Excellent match for this dish.

Hi all,

ok, had another look at things and even with the dish off the motor and aligned for badr4 I am still only getting a handful of transponders. Totally clueless as to why I have lost so many over the past year or so.

I did try to realign the motorised setup but once again with USALS badr was still ending up about ten nudges west of where it should have been.

I'll go over the basics to see if theres something obvious that I have done wrong.

I am 54.25 N 7.45 W, magnetic declination here is 4 degrees 58 mins west - in decimal 4.996 - so I use 5 west as my set up target and go from there. Elevation and declination on the motor / dish are set correctly at 54 and 25 (30-declination)

At this point im just not getting where I am going wrong. I will say however that the TD110 has been banged about a bit in the past and im wondering is that the actual problem. In any case Im stumped.

Can anyone suggest a dish of similar size to replace it with - perhaps weighing less? I take it the triax's are made of steel, anyone know the actual assembled weight of this dish?

Anyway I've given up for now, the dish is off the motor and stuck on Astra 2 :-(

Anyone have any suggestions as to where im going wrong?
 
If you are that far West, why not use 8W as your reference, it's much closer to your actual due South line.
 
Have realigned the dish just shy of 8W - the badr tp's are still gone except for 11938 12015 12226 and one or two others. However, for the first time badr is lining up using usals AND I am now getting 21.5 E for the first time, so things are probably now as good as I am going to get on this dish. Might try a black ultra LNB to see if I can do any better :-)

Just a note to thank all who gave advice, especially those who suggested the inverto black ultra lnb - added one today to the td110 and hey presto, I have all tp's back on BADR4 including some I have never received before. Pretty amazing change! MBC is now at 70% !

As well as the LNB being exceptionally good I think triax seriously need to look again at the length of their feed arm on this one.

I live just outside of Trondheim in Norway, have a 1m motorised dish and is out of reach of BADR-4 according to the footprint map. Despite that I have been able to get the channels on 12.182 GHz all the time (except during rainy weather) and regularly the channels on 12.130 GHz. But for a few months I have lost signal on 12.182 GHz totally, and I don't get to find any signal when trying to adjust with the motor. According to Lyngsat the PID and FEC details are the same for the transponder. Anyone who know what I can do to troubleshoot?

Are you receiving from any other horizontal transponders?
 
No, I got 12.182 because the PID details are 16.200 3/4, for most others they are 27.500 3/4. I haven't got a clue why I got to receive 12.130 up here. But now I don't receive anything, as mentioned...
 
It could be alignment or the LNB is getting weak. Are you using USALS or DiSEqC 1.2 to control the motor? Have you tried moving the motor from the receiver, a little bit either way?
 
I use DiSEqC 1.2 and have tried moving the motor both ways as suggested when getting dish in the position that is stored for BADR-4. Maybe I should try a different LNB and see if that would help. Thanks. :)
