Badr4 in Uganda?

My Satellite Setup
1.8 m C Band Dish on
PAS7_10 @ 68.5°E, 1.8 m Astra C Band Dish (for roaming) but now on Thaicom 2/5 @ 78.5, 90 cm (GTV) offset on Sirius 4; ALL FTA and Astravox VSR-400 Reciever, I Still have 2 analogue recievers...(4 what? noo one knows!!)

Hi guyz & girls,

I started sat things watching analogue Arabsat which closed without warning about 2 years ago.

I read a comment where Analogue said that the footprints are usually in theory. That the reception actually extends beyond the stipulated view (which I understand is called fringe reception). After loosing Arabsat, I was left with nothing. My channels are now on Badr4 MBC foot print. But this foot print is quite far from my location (Lat. 0.6°N, Lon. 32°E). I am probably more than a thousand kilometers away. Also, I can’t read the EIRP power since am beyond the foot print.

Can I use my 1.8m prime focus, do the offsetting and fix a Ku band LNB to get this content? Advise me.

Certainly looks like you may have a chance with a 1.8m, but probably the only way to find out is to try.:)
 
Maybe. Extreme fringe reception is at best theoretical. Whilst we have excellent knowledge of European extreme fringe reception conditions, there is very little information about African extreme fringe.

To be honest it will be a case of try it and see.
 
We could get some basis for practice. Looking at some setups you guyz have up in Europe, the dishes nearly face the horizon, while my arabsat 30 or 26 - I don't know - used to face overhead. Can't I have a chance since the beams originate nearly above me? Let's theorise some more!!!
 
It doesnt work like that. Imagine you are holding a torch in your hand. If you shine it straight down at your feet you get a circular spread of light - this is what you would get if the satellite was aimed straight down.

Now point the torch at a point 20 feet in front of you. You get a more or less oval pattern of light. This is equivalent to the satellite aiming a few thousand miles to the north of you.

In this case the beam is nowhere near your feet - which it needs to be if you are to get any reception at all.
 
Lyngsat footprint says I need a 1.2 metre dish for that beam but it booms in on a 60cm dish. I'm watching MBC Persia at the minute: S93, Q99.
 
Thanx guyz; analoguesat for the perfect illustration. Pliz don't ask for "school fees" yet bcoz am still in the class and not yet done.

Thumbs up Huevos! but what does (S93, Q99) mean.

Also, you live on 38N- six latitudes away from me and nearer to the foot print...
 
Signal and Quality, but what Huevos is saying is, theoretic footprints are exactly that.
 
Wow!!! Pliz Huevos give a rough name of location, Gorb Track can't find locations by typing in coordinates, while my modem can't bring dishpoiter, I need that info to do some thinking here.
 
Hes in Spain somewhere. What hes saying is that footprint maps are very theoretical - sometimes you get far better reception than you would expect (a "hotspot")

However you also get far worse reception that you would expect (a "cold spot")

Extreme fringe reception is a tricky thing - most of the time you just have to try it and see what happens.
 
By the way what does FSS and BSS mean?
 
They are just two different frequency bands

BSS = 12.2->12.7Ghz

FSS = 11.7->12.2Ghz

It has to do with how the bands were divided once upon a time between home (broadcast) and commercial (fixed) service satellite freuqncies. Note that we use frequencies from 10.7->12.75Ghz now.

Yes, it's better to be out of footprint and physically closer to the satellite, than to be out of footprint and still much farther away from it.

Can you receive intelsat 7 68.5E KU band South Africa beam? Or have you heard of anyone in Uganda or Kenya who does? Thanks in advance.

Been trying to set Badr4 with no success, however, I usually put back the dish at 68.5 E after every failure. I left the ku LNB on and typed in the TPs. I got better performance - S99, Q70; where as the former would give S99, Q57. So am thinking I don't need to put the Badr4 ku lnb in offset position, that I just will leave it in the prime position. Does this affect the signal (of using a ku lnb in the prime focus posion?)

Any idea fox? Thx.
 
I tried another wild idea that did't work. Putting both C and ku LNBs on same dish on same satellite! If anyone has done it successfully, please give me your way of doing it.

Not many C band users in the UK as few transmissions in our skies, I would suggest you read the Indian section of the forum for more information as they tend to use C band and C/Ku band combos

Will give it a try since thats where my dish is pointed. I'll come back with the results and let u know for your challenge. All along I thought it would a waste of time!!!!!!!!!!
