Oh, and I've found a negative aspect to FWA Broadband .... the duplex antenna is covered in snow and my speed has dropped markedly.

You need to botch a snow cover for it made from a couple of brackets & a 2litre drinks bottle

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

Near Pontop Pike, Co. Durham
So it's a bit like a sky minidish then? Bit of snow on the arm and forget watching TV...:-rofl2

Not if you start with a bigger dish/antenna than " the book" says you need = that's why I've used 60cm/Zone 2 dishes here

IIRC, a few days ago you said that the inside of your house was like a refrigerator - think it will be more like a freezer when "Lady Caroline" hits you :)
(In other words, "be careful what you wish for, in case it may come true"!)

It's always like a fridge in this house, even in the summer, except my bedroom which ends up roasting hot... :-rofl2

And besides, two paraffin heaters, a FloGas heater (like Calor Gas, but actually affordable!) and plenty of blanketry, I'll survive...:D

Rather you than me (and probably some others) - we also "survive" : I'm normally in shorts and shirt in the evenings (otherwise I'm too hot!), with a couple of blankets and occasionally a bedcover on the bed (but I may need a 3rd blanket on the bed over the weekend :) )

Here in Yorkshire we sleep in the buff with nothing but a thin sheet as a bedcover.

However, when the boiler frost-stat kicks in, we might consider donning a T-Shirt.

Seriously though, about 40yrs ago I copped some sort of viral infection that totally wrecked my body's temperature control "mechanisms" and I can't "stand" or "operate in" temps much outside the range 10-30C. Also, my wife is a Type 1 diabetic with a real problem with her left foot which get very sensitive to the weight of the bedclothes and often needs to outside of them - and she's always had very cold hands and feet (as I well know!) .

So, we need temperatures that are very comfortable for us both - and thus I did/had done a lot of work to heavily insulate the house and get a good c/h system installed and reliable.

A tad breezy oop ere atm - and the limitations of the hastily banged in fence post holding the 1m dish in place is showing its limitations as that dish is regularly losing signal as the gusts lash it. So need to sort that out at the weekend if its not freezing cold outside - a quick swap over for one of the trusty 80cm dishes probably...

Or maybe I'll find a longer fence post :D

@AS

Could you not just bang in 3 or 4 angled posts with the tops screwed to the existing post to provide lateral bracing, making a 3 or 4 legged tripod - should be quicker and easier than changing dish?

Possibly, but bodging it possibilities are limited by a low wall and the access path round the back of the shed which I cant block as the landlord is planning on doing some drainage work there. And Ive got a suitable long fencepost or dish in store in the shed :)

I will have a tinker with it when Ive got a suitable weather window and see what I can hack together..

Following on my idea above - maybe lateral posts parallel with the wall, and then a brace to the wall itself (roughly what I did with a brace to the back of next door's fence! :) )

Shamelessly stolen from the Plusnet forum:

Londoners are advised to carry extra tissues with a warning of white stuff landing...

I just showed the above to my wife - she said "after Caroline this one should called "Storm Dick"" :)
