Time for a new storm thread, and with the remnants of hurricane Katia bearing down on the UK this weekend this seems like a good time to kick off the winter storm chat

Yup.

Spent this afternoon washing and putting away all the movable stuff from the garden eg Placcy chairs, table etc.

Even cleaned out the stinky Water Butt.

Just got my Bench to Oil (NOT a euphemism, Pete)

What you do in the privacy of your own garden is entirely you own business (3 posts in and the thread's already found it's level)

Weather here is quite benign, though we will probably catch the tail end of anything you get

.....now where did I put that bottle of oil??

No satellite stuff for the moment (aside from a 43cm minidish that was on the house already), Samsung SyncMaster T27B550 Smart TV & Monitor, and a few computers...

According to the BBC weather guesses, it'll be hailstone tomorrow morning at 7am... :confused

So that'll be wall to wall sunshine then... :-rofl2

Couldn't agree more with your scepticism, D-C.

I have the new MetOffice Weather Gadget which gives forecasts based on our local Met.Station at Topcliffe, seven crow miles away.

It too is totally wrong at all times - forecasts change with the wind. Literally.

I have resorted to the "Via Fenestre" method.

The wind has picked up here in the past two hours, but nothing like the north tomorrow, the met office predicts most of it will be hit by a giant egg.

Yes, I've been out three times already to satisfy myself that here is enough weight holding the TD110 down.

Daren't even look at the gable end where the utility dishes are.

Phew, that was close!

My neighbour is away for a few days, so I just popped round to ensure all is wind-tight and ended up doing a rather nifty shimmy to avoid a very large Bramley Apple falling from his tree.

Another couple of inches and I'd be nursing a bump at the very least.

Wind is really bad here in the Northeast

I didnt have time to get out yesterday to bring the 1.1 meter indoors till the winds dissapear so I hope she`ll be ok out there

I dont know if I should rotate the dish using the motor though so the back of the dish runs parralel to the wall (so the back of the dish is pointing at the house) or if I should leave as is and hope for the best

....Been debated many times Smoggy ..
Generally we fall into 2 camps ..
The side on camp ..so as to present less surface area to the wind direction ...
And the Tough it out camp ...of which I'm one ..
I prefer to get the dish as far East as it will go ...in the event of a westerly wind ..
Preferably driven to 66/68 East .....So as to expose as much curved reverse of the dish as possible to the winds direction ..
BUT ..I'd only recommend this approach if T & Ks are used ....2 or more ....and therefore securely fixed to the wall.

This method seems to produce less vibration or wobble in the event of gusts ...and thus reduces re-alignment issue post wind event ..
It does however increase wind loading exposure ...but this is usually distributed fairly evenly ...
Hence the need for secure wall fixing ..
All my opinion of course ..
In the end its down to personal preference ..and lady luck.

Well I'm in a camp of my own ..................... yes, I weighed down my Patio Mount, but the TD110 has decided that if it can't fall over, it's going to swivel around the pole!

Hopefully that's the worst - it has found it's own equilibrium and is easily put right tomorrow.

Just a guess Gordon ...
..is the equilibrium point ...rear on to the wind direction ??

I think I`m going to aim for the 60s to the east and hope strong wind doesnt get between the wall and the dish, it`s held up with a T and a K but I`m still not 100% happy with it

Ok so I aimed east out towards the 68e area and the dish was violently moving and I didnt like the look of it so I`ve sent it back to 28 where a lot of the dish is exposed to the wind but it`s not rocking as bad

at least when it`s at 28 I`ll know it`s blew down when the TV stops working lol
