BBC1 HD will be launched in the Autumn

According to this:

it will be in addition to BBC HD, and will be fta.
 
Good news, thanks.

I find it frustrating that BBC HD itself isn't listed in the Newspapers etc and often gets omitted by default from viewing.

Having a simulcast channel in the same way that ITV1 HD now is will be a great help.

Do I take it "up your way" you still see 405 line technology as a new-fangled development?

We were the first full ITV sub region to turn the analogue transmitters off (Border Scotland, based around the Selkirk transmitter and its dozen or so dependent relays)

As it's Free To Air, it's bound to be on 2D.

If this is going to be the same low quality, low bandwith as BBC HD then might as well stick with BBC1 SD.
 
I'm not sure of the technical details, but wacthing a prog on BBC HD still looks better quality than on SD

We will have no knocking of the service at the moment - its several months away yet.

Couldn't agree more ............ I have noticed lots of mutterings on DS about allegedly poor quality, but these are the people who spend their time measuring, monitoring and investigating every last pixel rather than setting up their kit (usually vastly expensive and overspecified) properly and viewing from the correct distance.

In the end, it's about perception, and I find the HD stuff far better than SD (A good point of comparison for the limited amount of stuff that is simulcast at present is yer actual Gardeners' World).
 
Agree also, and my older panel is only 576i :D
Certainly a noticeable difference.
 
I'm viewing BBC HD at 1080i and there's a clear difference from BBC SD. I don't sit a foot away from the screen and count pixels as some people do, I actually watch the programs!! ITV HD still has an awful lot of upscaled SD content, as do some of the Astra1 German channels. Of these I think Servus TV HD carries most true HD content and the picture quality appears better than BBC HD.

They are also the people that read stuff from higher quality sites, and choose to rant on any rambling thread just to increase their post counts.

Indeed - I don't have an account there any longer owing to the kindergarten nature of much of it. There are odd bits of useful info to be plucked from the miasma though, so worth a dip into, in read-only mode, on occasion.
 
It's not as good quality as Sky but still a lot better than SD
 
Yep, the PQ on HD programs is better than the SD versions (although some of the SD scales incredibly well with my Cuberevo), but still not as detailed or wow as the Platforma HD channels we watch.
