BBC HD in Irish Republic?

Is BBC HD and Channel4 HD available on the SKY platform in the Irish Republic?
 
Channel 4 HD is FTV and only available with a UK card.
BBC HD is FTA so can be viewed in Ireland on any HD box. However it's not on the epg so has to be added using the following parameters:

What kind of UK card is needed? At present I have a normal SKY Card (Blue with Yellow house) for all channels except Movies and Sports (used to be called Family Pack I think - costs me £21.50 pcm).
To receive Ch4 HD would I have to have an additional SKY subscription? What is the cheapest "non-SKY" box on the market to receive Ch4 HD?
Or what box is recommended (cheap or not cheap)? I would like to receive CH4 HD, but without any monthly subs - don't mind a "one-off" payment.

Cheapest HD receiver seen around retail anyway eg. _http://www.southernsat.co.uk/index.php?l=product_detail&p=347

Ch4 HD is FTV.
 
You should be able to receive ch4 HD with any valid UK Sky card on a Sky HD receiver.

I don't think that there is a solution for non Sky receivers at present due to the new white Sky cards. Maybe one of the HD Linux machines works with the new cards, but they are not cheap.

Thanks for that. But would that require a monthly sub (or additional monthly sub) to SKY?? Then there is the problem of if I bought (where from?) a SKY HD box I'd have to have it matched to my SKY card, would SKY agree to that when it is already matched to my regular (SD) SKY box? Or would I have to obtain (from SKY??) a FTV/FTA card? Regards buying a SKY HD box I read on another thread that many were stolen and SKY won't recognise them for matching with cards. So, being in Cyprus, what is the best way to obtain a SKY HD box. Sorry to ask so many further questions, but I need to know the score, and costs!, before embarking down this route to obtaining Ch4 reception. I cannot receive CH4 SD because of a mobile phone (cellnet) TX on our roof.

I don't think so, as SMM says, it's a FTV channel at present. I have an ex-subscription card and was able to view it using my TM6800HD receiver. The card has now gone off though, due to the Sky card swap.

Hi Geoff,
The Ebay route might be the best way to get your hands on a HD box, don't get a Thomson though as they are prone to psu problems. Maybe try this guy?

Then when you get your new HD receiver simply ring sky up to match card and box. Ch 4 HD should be working anyway even without pairing. You must tell them you wish only to use the recording features of the box like a sky + and are not interested in the HD mix at this time. If you don't they'll switch the HD mix on and charge you £10 extra a month!

don't forget you'll need a second cable run from your lnb, Sky HD as I'm sure you already know has two tuners.

Many many thanks for that info Denis, and thanks also to the other contributors.
I didn't know the SKY HD box has 2 feeds and 2 tuners! I take it that one tuner is for the SD channels, and the second tuner for the HD channels (??). Does just the one card serve both tuners?

Both tuners are S2 Geoff, but an S2 tuner can receive standard definition channels and like the Sky+ box, the card serves both tuners.

will a card gone off bought from e bay work in tm 6900 HD? so il be able to see c4HD what FTV means? thanks
 
The only answer is maybe, and then only for a limited time.

It's not unknown for people to put their old, now deactivated, cards for sale - these won't work.

As we are in the middle of a $ly card changeover (several posts on the forum about it) even if you get one that works it won't for long. If you know anyone with a GB or, preferably for you, NI address they can order a new series FTV card from $ly which should last 4 or 5 years. Last price was was £20 or £23 I think.

BTW, you need to put a price there for the TM6900 (thinks to himself, "Hmmmm, could I justify it and sneak it in past the wife?")

Apparently it is not allowed to post your email address - I wonder why not in this age of the Internet?! I think that rule, on here, is plain daft. It should be up to me when I disclose my email address. Anyway folks, anyone with the info I am looking for can send me a PRIVATE MESSAGE (wow, aren't we lucky having THAT facility). Cheesed off - you bet I am!
 
Email addresses are not allowed simply because it just encourages people asking questions to ask for information to be emailed to them rather than it being discussed on the forum so everyone benefits.

It does lead to some oddities but a blanket ban is better than twenty mods & admins using different personal criteria as to whats acceptable for allowing email addys.

As for buying & selling stuff we insist that any transactions/offers up to where the money changes hands are done in public just so there cant be any misunderstandings or accusations of folk being ripped off. Anyone breaking this rule is on their own if something goes wrong.

OK, seems a bit of a wooley argument (agin use of or posting of email addresses), but I will of course abide by the ruling in future. But I don't like it!

it was redone in the right way in to the right place now in the sale section,sorry about that,and the wife not to worry its all sorted ;)
